Set: 1996-97 Topps Stars

Card: #34 Robert Parish

“ This set is a 1996-97 release, not just 1996. It even refers to itself that way on the game card that was in every pack. It was made to celebrate the NBA's 50 Greatest Players for the 50th anniversary. This was great to me, as I had just discovered the NBA a few months before. All 50 players got three cards in the set, and Topps reprinted their rookie cards- or at least their first Topps cards for players who came into the league after 1985. I received this entire set as my birthday present from my parents in either 1996 or 1997, or possibly as a Christmas present. When they brought the 49 surviving 50 Greatest out at the All-Star game that year, it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my time watching the NBA. Sadly something that cannot be done anymore as several have passed away since then. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Saw him play in college against Hardin-Simmons and the fans were on him from the get-go. Every time he'd get to the line they'd count his dribbles. He ended up fouling out and HSU won the game. His demeanor, though, never waivered. It remained stone cold. ” -Sportzcommish

“ Throwback to the days when I followed basketball and loved the Celtics - Parish, Bird, McHale, Ainge, et al. ” -olerud363

“ I have this complete set! Loved it because it had all of their career stars on the back. ” -JoshReese92099

“ I have a handful of these in my collection; in fact, just received one signed by Bob Pettit about a month ago. Cool concept for a set, but whether it's the photography, the checklist, or something else, something about this set just bothers me. ” -jasongerman9

“ I like this card. It reminds me of early 90's Stadium Club baseball, but with full career stats. Death to foil. ” -dilemma19

“ I remember him at the end of his career with the Bulls when he was a shell of himself. A great player but it's hard to believe that he never averaged 20 points per game in any season. ” -carthage44

“ Great photo. ” -parsley24

“ Am I bad for liking the back more than the front? Front is a bit too plain for modern cards (1990 to current). At least you can read the player name easily. Thanks to the photo you know his team. Back as I said I like a bit better, except I don't like the sea/beach feeling blue background with a lighter blue "stars" logo design. At least they are complete stats. Could do without the two pictures. ” -captkirk42

“ For some reason, Robert Parish always looks good on his cards. ” -NJDevils

“ Tough to think he's one of the most overrated players in history considering he's also one of the most beloved. All in all I'd say worthy of being a Hall of Famer. Just not by a wide margin. ” -Brimose

“ Nice card, legendary player. I'm a fan. ” -kents_stuff

“ Very nice looking card. I love this set. ” -switzr1

“ Every team should have a player numbered '00.' ” -royals
