Set: 2002-03 Topps (Rate)

Card: #214 Robert Archibald

“ Spoiler Alert: He couldn't make an impact in the NBA. He played a grand total of 44 career NBA games, over two seasons, then toiled in the EuroLeague until 2012 (where he did find some success, and he also appeared in the 2012 Olympics for the Great Britain host team) The 2002-03 rookie class is one of if not the one that holds the most memories for me. The Topps set that year has never been my favorite Topps flagship but I still have most of them in my collection. The photo here on this card appears to have been taken at the draft combine, but it may have been the Summer League. Neither were covered in the media at that time so I can't be totally sure. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Nate he is not. I'm not convinced it's better to issue a card than to wait and get a photo with a real uniform, in a real game, with spectators. Who knew? ” -dilemma19

“ Nice looking card. Topps? Design looks like an early 1990s minor league set. ” -captkirk42

“ Poor Illinois. ” -carthage44

“ Great Topps basketball design. I loved these. ” -switzr1

Set: 1993-94 Stadium Club (Rate)

Card: #409 Stewart Malgunas

“ My team, and I don't remember this guy at all. I probably have the card as well. ” -vrooomed

“ Classic Stadium Club...great scan too! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I liked Stadium Club's first two sets, what followed wasn't bad , just not as good. Pretty reliable player , spent most of his time in the minors though. ” -uncaian

“ It's a shame that Stadium Club set the bar for photography so high that sometimes even they don't measure up. Apparently the 92/93 baseball issues were selling well, so they elected to reuse a tried and true design. Can't say much about the player, since I've never heard of him. ” -dilemma19

“ Stadium Club. OK front. This was one of the sets that started this dang foil letter junk. Team name and logo would be nice on the front. Back don't like this "skills rating" thing or it's placement. Back photo bit too large for my tastes. Career record again using the original vintage only most recent season with career totals if available. ” -captkirk42

“ Great front. Back is a royal mess. ” -NJDevils

“ You can tell he plays defense. He doesn't have a visor. ” -carthage44

“ Probably the worst standard 1993-94 hockey set. One year of stats, silly "Topps Skills Rating" (where everyone is at least a 6 in everything) and a ho-hum design. ” -wax_house

“ This may be the last year I liked Stadium Club designs for a while. They went downhill fast in all sports for a while. But I do like this design, which existed in some (or all) of the other three Topps sports. ” -switzr1

Set: 2013-14 SP Authentic (Rate)

Card: #147 Tuukka Rask

“ Don't criticize me, but boy, I LOVE this card. ” -DarkSide830

“ Excellent card (tough-to-scan foil gets a mulligan). Not news: Rask is quite a good goalie. Hockey cards generally suffer from "too much white", but I think any other color would look strange. One of the better card backs I've seen in a while. ” -dilemma19

“ Nice looking card EXCEPT for the silver foil lettering you can't raed. Make that a legible color with proper contrasting to match the background color and its good to go. Back is pretty standard and OK for modern cards. I do miss cartoons on the back though. This has the right stuff on the back. Player pic could be smaller or just not at all. ” -captkirk42

“ This is a nice set , bright and shiny but not over done. Rask is a great goalie & hates HATES to lose. ” -uncaian

“ Not bad for SP Authentic. I'm no fan of cards where there is no real background, but at least the photo is clear and the back is easily read. I like the etched foil team logo. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Not as sharp this year but Rask has been a solid goalie for the Bruins ever since taking over for Tim Thomas ” -ketchupman36

“ Such a good hockey name. ” -carthage44

Set: 1989 Score (Rate)

Card: #607 Jim Eppard

“ Like many cards from the late 80s "Junk years" there was a time when I was sick and tired of this set. Well those days are over and I like maybe even love this set again. Just like about 90% of the other sets I need to build I still need a ton of these "JUNK" cards. As I like to say about junk era cards (and about any cards in general) DON'T THROW THEM AWAY, at the very least RECYCLE THEM, or better yet give them to me no strings/commitments. ” -captkirk42

“ How did Score manage to write a legitimately informative paragraph or two on each player, display full career stats and a photo on the back? Admittedly their photography wasn't fantastic, and the designs (though uncluttered) were pretty bland, but it's a pity that this brand couldn't survive. Who's Jim Eppard by the way?!? ” -dilemma19

“ Great scan...solid card design. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Solid effort. Much better than the debut Score set from the previous year. ” -vrooomed

“ You've got to give Score credit for trying. ” -NJDevils

“ I think I could have been in the Majors in the 80's. Jim Eppard??? ” -carthage44

“ I threw a factory set of these cards out into the street with the magic motion inserts included--worthless. ” -RoundtheDiamond87

“ Now this is a random card! I LOVE seeing these cards pop up, as it reminds me so much of the time when collecting was so fun. It still is, but this "junk" era will always have a special place in my heart. ” -RoyalChief

Set: 2013-14 O-Pee-Chee - Retro (Rate)

Card: #218 Eric Brewer

“ Way cool! Or, should I say. Groovy? ” -Billy Kingsley

“ lol eric brewer. The retro parallels were good when they were actually using old designs (like 08-09) instead of these phony retro-styled mock-ups. ” -wax_house

“ Nothing retro about this at all. ” -carthage44

“ I love these retro OPC editions. I'm not too sold on the green/yellow combo on the front but whatever. Team name or logo on front would be nice, you can't always go by the team sweater on cards now-days. Having his position on the front would be nice also. Back... OK but prefer COMPLETE stats, not just the year before. On the other hand only one year of stats is more with the vintage way of things since that was how they first started showing stats in the vintage days. Too much space a cartoon on the back would have been nice. ” -captkirk42

“ Disco card! I think Brewer was selected to a Canadian Olympic team one year. Guess that's pretty high praise. ” -dilemma19

“ I'm fairly certain this card could be used in hypnosis. ” -Mitch

“ Wow! That background...it's hypnotic....man. ” -Kaline6

“ DISCO!! ” -cjjt

Set: 2000-01 Topps Stars (Rate)

Card: #143 Shareef Abdur-Rahim

“ Plain looking back, but for some reason I really like the front. ” -jupiterhill

“ *YAWN* boring. ” -DarkSide830

“ You can't tell from the scan, but every base card in this set has a subtle metallic-type finish. It looks good in person but is nearly impossible to scan, it's so subtle. I believe this is the first time ever that a Vancouver Grizzlies card has come up as Card of the Day. He was traded to the Hawks after the season this card was produced, and the Grizzlies themselves moved to Memphis. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Two knee braces. Can you say old man. ” -carthage44

“ Not sure what this insert card is supposed to "spotlight". Looking at the back, oh he is his team's leading scorer? ” -captkirk42

Set: 2002 Press Pass (Rate)

Card: #25 Joe Nemechek

“ Not a racing fan, and have never heard of this man. He'd probably make a better President than Trump though. ” -dilemma19

“ 2002 was one of his best years on the circuit. His son is now an up and coming young talent and Joe has moved into the mentor/proud father role for the most part. I've always been a fan of his, I was a fan of his brother John (who was killed during a race) and now I'm a fan of his son John Hunter. The Nemecheks are just good people. I'm not too much a fan of this set, typical Press Pass. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ His name looks like a hockey players. ” -carthage44

“ OK card don't collect racing so not sure what stats should or shouldn't be on the back. Press Pass did OK on racing stuff but I really hate Press Pass for Football since they were college cards. ” -captkirk42

“ Athlete. ” -wax_house

“ "Yeah, I'm Joe.... What's it to ya?" ” -SFC Temple

“ Don't like the front. Back is good. Would be interesting to see his results, and a picture of his car, if I were into the Nascars, so I would probably really like the back if I collected these. I would think that if I were into racing cards, I would be more interested in pictures of the cars than the drivers. But the repeated picture side-by-side on the front looks awful. ” -switzr1

Set: 2007 Topps - Gibson Home Run History (Rate)

Card: #JG59 Josh Gibson

“ Neat card. Good history. Would have worked better if he had played in the era of photographers everywhere, every game, but the concept is sound. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I read about this guy. AMAZING!!! ” -carthage44

“ Ugly front. the bottom panel with the 460 is too dark hard to read the number even though it takes up a third of the card. The 'photo' (painting? actually) should be the whole front with the 460 on top of it and a little smaller. Lets check the back... the info that is there is OK but the picture should be where the 460 is and the 460 shouldn't be its own logo. A headline yes, a "picture" or text box NO. ” -captkirk42

“ WOW!! Great little bio on the back....I wonder how much stats and records would be different if the likes of Gibson, and Satchel Paige played. ” -RoyalChief

Set: 2000 SkyBox (Rate)

Card: #48 Tony Gwynn

“ I have never ever seen a more consistent hitter. Still remember my jaw dropping when he homered in the 98 WS ” -volbox

“ Euh...not a fan. ” -DarkSide830

“ One of the best (if not the best) pure hitter of all-time! ” -carthage44

“ I didn't think Tony was that fast!!! I was wrong. ” -RoyalChief

“ Flattering photo on the reverse. I like the design, it's a little different without being stupid. ” -wax_house

“ OK design. Don't like the foil of the brandname. Oh cool just noticed the "action" blurring effect. Thought it was just background blur at first. Back photo too big, a small bio should or career highlights would be nice. ” -captkirk42

“ Beautiful card depicting a legend. Love it!! ” -dilemma19

“ This was a nice looking set. ” -switzr1

“ A class act. ” -UKboogie

Set: 1991-92 Upper Deck (Rate)

Card: #262 J.R. Reid

“ The first Upper Deck NBA set...a classic. The first card I ever traded for was J.R. Reid's base card from 1995-96 Topps. It's in poor shape and I've since upgraded but I still have the one I traded for. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Like the front some. The sideways stats on the back NO. ” -captkirk42

“ Again, the sideways stats on the back. Boooo! ” -NJDevils

“ Heck yea JR Reid! Decent player! ” -wax_house

“ Not sure what is happening on the back. Is he rebounding? Blocking a shot? Dunking with the worst aim imaginable? ” -Mitch

“ I have no idea what is going on with that picture on the back. ” -switzr1

“ The back picture looks like he's going to hurl the ball at the woman in the neck brace. Either way, this a clean, simple card that won't win any design awards but won't be added to the dumpster fire either. ” -ketchupman36

“ Pretty simple but solid design. ” -carthage44

“ I like the front. Court floor border. Lots of room for the picture. The back is another story. I like the backboard number. But could do without the picture in place of more stats/bio. ” -C2Cigars
