Set: 2007 Topps Heritage (Rate)

Card: #341 Pittsburgh Pirates

“ Thumbs down Topps Heritage. ” -addysdaddy

“ Looks like something a little league team gets done at the end of the season for a souvenir. ” -revnorb

“ Great team photo on the front. This is what the front of team cards should look like! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I like team cards, and the Buccos are my favorite baseball team. However, this card I do not really care for all that much. The big yellow border just looks dreadful. ” -Gunny

“ I still like team cards. ” -vrooomed

“ The vested Pirates! A look they should have kept. ” -jlaz10

“ I liked team cards when I was a kid, but as an adult I'm glad they are less frequent now. ” -jackal726

“ Team cards have always been my favorite type of card. I like getting them because not everyone on the team got a card. This way, you get all the players even if it is on one card. Always thought that a team card should be part of every team related sport's base card set. ” -yokonashiwa

Set: 2005-06 Parkhurst (Rate)

Card: #126 Ian Laperriere

“ Not a bad design, for a messed with photo anyway. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Not a bad design. Nice guy too! ” -vrooomed

“ One of my favorite Parkhurst sets that I'm still working on. I like the larger sets. This had a few subsets, and only one parallel which was nice for a change. ” -suomibear8

“ The Avs looked so much better before the Edge update. ” -jlaz10

“ I love how it tells that he set all those personal records with the "new rules" in 05-06, but those numbers aren't in his stats, and it doesn't tell what the new rules were either. Maybe he scored 40 goals. Maybe he scored 14. But we know it was his best season. ” -switzr1

Set: 2001 SPx (Rate)

Card: #77 Phil Nevin

“ Good scan! The card design is just "meh" to me though- so was the basketball version. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Not being that familiar with the NL West, all I really remember about his career is his no-trade clause. Dude rejected being traded for Griffey, then somebody from Milwaukee, then Sidney Ponson and Baltimore. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Hold up, I got this. ” -DaClyde

“ Probably the best player of the 5 guys drafted ahead of Derek Jeter. He went #1 overall that year. ” -NJdevils

“ "Hi pitcher! How's it going?" ” -vrooomed

“ Nice action pose from a former college great. ” -flcardtrader

“ The Padres haven't looked good since they ditched the brown and gold. ” -jlaz10

“ Time out while I do my ridiculous "getting ready to bat" wiggle dance. ” -jackal726

Set: 1995 Decipher Star Trek Alternate Universe (Rate)

Card: #NNO Baryon Buildup

“ I'm all for non sport, but the cavalcade of TGC games is a bit much ” -SFC Temple

“ Little fiber might help that build up. ” -uncaian

“ It's CCG day on the database again! Since I've ranted about this game several times already, I'll take my pithy comments in another direction - one which the use of baryon reminded me of. Last Unicorn Games printed a Star Trek RPG in the late 90s/early 2000s. On page 231 of the TNG core rulebook, there is a technobabble generator chart. You roll a d12 under three different categories, and whatever is the result is either the problem for or solution to the adventure's dilemma. So your character is in Engineering and you might have to repair the *roll-roll-roll* positronic displacement equalizer. It can't be any crazier than however the writers on the show did it. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Look's Cool! ” -MAS23

“ I have had Baryon Buildup before....my Doctor told me to take a laxative and exercise more....all better! ” -flcardtrader

“ Not a terribly useful card in the game. At least I never used it that I remember except maybe in a sealed deck tournament. ” -koloth42

“ This card just screams Sheldon Cooper to me ” -rmitchell6700

“ Star Trek! ” -jlaz10

“ It seems to me that the COTD randomizer is really a trekkie after all. ” -Dixxy

Set: 2001 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects (Rate)

Card: #BDP18 Ron Chiavacci

“ Bring back the Expos! ” -jlaz10

“ The infamous BDPP sets. You have to be an Einstein to decipher their numbering systems and where to put them. ” -NJdevils

“ This is his only 2001 card. Nowadays, if Bowman made this, there would also be at least 30 different parallels of it. I miss the days when collecting a player's complete checklist seemed like a reasonable goal. ” -switzr1

Set: 2011 Panini Prestige - League Leaders (Rate)

Card: #23 Tom Brady / Drew Brees / Peyton Manning / Eli Manning

" Which of these 4 didn't win a Super Bowl MVP Award " -FOOTBALL KNOW-IT ALL

“ Same pictures on front and back... eeew. At least they made the back black and white. ” -Howintensive

“ Excellent card. League Leaders subsets should be included in every sport in at least one set per season. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ People can hate on Eli and say he's not a top quarterback all they want. But the man does have 2 rings ” -Young Kilo

“ I'd consider three of the four "Great"...and the other one won a Super Bowl, so what can I say! ” -bkklaos

“ Front is impressive but the back is lacking due to the use of the same photos as the front. ” -NJDevils

“ I never liked quad-player cards for any reason. ” -suomibear8

“ Almost the same exact design on the back, just black and white. ” -jlaz10

“ Seems like one of these guys has been in every Super Bowl for years. I know that's not completely accurate (Ravens-49ers), but this is about as successful a foursome as the league has ever had at the same time. That makes for a cool card. ” -switzr1

Set: 1998-99 UD Choice Preview (Rate)

Card: #18 Toni Kukoc

“ Ok, this is a scan that I submitted. Not a hardcore basketball collector, but I have a few cards. I like this set, it has some great action shots and the cards are simple and to the point. Jerry ” -sltyeager

“ Kukoc led the Bulls in scoring the year after Michael Jordan retired for the second time and Scottie Pippen left as a free agent. (1998-99 was that year). However, the Bulls fared poorly, and ended up getting the #1 draft pick in 1999, which they used to draft my all-time favorite player. Kukoc would leave the Bulls for the 76ers following 1998-99, and also played for the Bucks. One of the first Croatian players in the NBA. UD Choice replaced Collector's Choice, and like many sets in the first Lockout season, series 2 was cancelled. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Kukoc is so good he can play 1 on 4. ” -koloth42

“ Those Bucks unis tho. ” -jlaz10

“ This was one of the first of the few basketball cards I ever owned. A pretty nice action shot, looks like a pretty short guy is trying to block him. haha. ” -Howintensive

Set: 1959 Topps (Rate)

Card: #287 Don Zimmer

“ If you ever get a 60-year long career out of something you enjoy, consider yourself lucky. ” -volbox

“ Zimmer played from 1954-1965 with the Dodgers (twice), Cubs, Mets, Reds and Senators. Career Stats: .235 Average, 91 Home Runs and 352 RBI. He was a 2x All-Star and won two World Series as a player with the Dodgers. He then became manager of the Padres, Red Sox, Rangers and Cubs. He was named NL Manager of the Year with the Cubs in 1989. He was a coach with the Expos, Padres, Red Sox (two different times), Yankees (three different times), Cubs, Giants, Rockies and was serving as a senior advisor with the Tampa Bay Rays since 2004. He won another four World Series as a coach with the Yankees in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. He passed away a little over a week ago on June 4th, 2014 of heart and kidney problems at the age of 83. ” -carthage44

“ Very nice vintage card. I believe he just died. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Great relevance on this pick for card of the day. I heard at the funeral Pedro put him in the ground. ” -addysdaddy

“ This card couldn't come at a better time after his passing away just a few days ago. This man was trully Mr. baseball himself. He was in baseball 'till his dying day. Along with Tommy Lasorda, I don't think there's any one who has loved the game more. ” -deporcoruña

“ RCotD is so randomly timely sometimes! RIP Don. ” -jackal726

“ I can't help but think this one isn't quite so random. Anyway, during their run of World Series titles in the late 90s, after a particularly bad loss, Steinbrenner ordered the entire coaching and training staff into his office for one of King George's legendary tirades. At one point, he screamed, "If there is anybody in this room who thinks they are doing everything they can to help this team win, you can leave right now!" One man stood up and walked out - Zimmer. According to people who were in that room, it was all anyone could do to keep from laughing. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Amazingly timely. I've often thought there should be some kind of trending feature that brings up searches of players who are currently in the news. RIP Popeye- an original Met. ” -Dave Sosidka

“ Companies just don't produce sets like these any more. Too many chase cards and inserts. I miss the days when an insert was a sticker or a stick of rock hard gum. ” -koloth42

“ Great card! position, logo, team name. Back is super. Good cartoon for kids (which I was back then) and complete stats. One photo on the front is all you need to make a fantastic card. ” -NJdevils

“ Don Zimmer and the '59 Topps set are two of my favorite things about baseball, ever. Also, this is the first ((of very few)) years where player names are typeset in all lower case letters, i think the only other such design is the 1971 Topps set. ” -revnorb

“ A great baseball man. I was long to be born when he was manager of my Red Sox, and even though when he passed he was with the hated Rays, I cried. The game may never see such a dedicated man. ” -jlaz10

FAQ: Is the Random Card of the Day really random? ANS: Yes, any connections with current events are purely coincidental. RIP Don Zimmer. ” -Admin

Set: 1993 Flair (Rate)

Card: #125 Erik Pappas

“ Nice card. The Flair design didn't change all that much over the years, did it? ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Pappas was drafted 6th overall by the California Angels during the 1984 MLB Draft. He played in the majors from 1991-1994 with the Cubs and Cardinals. Career Stats: 105 Games, .242 Average, 1 Home Run and 35 RBI. Pappas being Greek decent, competed for Greece during the 2004 Olympics at the age of 38. Greece finished 7th out of 8 teams during the Olympics. ” -carthage44

“ This looks like one of those terrible superimposed school photos. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ If this was a photo in your home you'd be laughed at, terrible idea for a card...booo this card, booo... ” -SaveDaKid

“ For a long time I thought Pappas was going to be better than Pagnozzi. I was young and didn't know any better. ” -jupiterhill

“ The Cards unis need some piping to me. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1997 Flair Showcase - Legacy Collection Row 1 (Grace) (Rate)

Card: #2 Derek Jeter

“ The baseball version was not serially numbered? The NBA version was, and in fact, one of the cards from the 1996-97 set was the very first serially numbered card I ever pulled from a pack. Really surprised to see the baseball version was not numbered. I know these cards, all the cards from the Flair Showcase era, look much better in person than they do in scans, even good scans, like this one. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Not a Yankee fan but you really have to respect this guy who has played the game the right way. ” -carthage44

“ I forgot what row my seat is in ” -addysdaddy

“ I like that font color. ” -Young Kilo

“ Looks like he's doing the Tater Digger dance step from "The Beverly Hillbillies." Furthermore, goofy script fonts like that have no place on sports cards. ” -revnorb

“ Who is that young man on this card? Congrats to a long successful career in the big leagues. ” -koloth42

“ Maybe one of the most confusing sets (numbering-wise and parallel-wise) ever. Decent looking card. But figuring out what card is which - forget it! ” -vrooomed

“ His bat look very heavy. ” -PMB

“ A young Jeter. One of the best. ” -jlaz10
