Year: 1993

Set: Topps (Rate)

Card: #566 Rod Brewer

“ This card is blandness incarnate, but this Card looks like he's trying to cop a free trip to first by having his teeth nicked by a pitch. ” -revnorb

“ Too similar to the 1992 set for my taste. Right before things went haywire. ” -vrooomed

“ Looks like Topps took 1993 off. Very bland design. ” -carthage44

“ Ah 1993 Topps this was one of the last years I was really into cards before I took a brief hiatus from actively collecting modern cards. I got fed up with all the holograms, chrome and gimmick cards that made up the madness of the "Junk Wax" years. Only to come back around 2005 for more trading card madness. I probably need to complete this set as well. ” -captkirk42

“ Pretty uninterested design. The early 90s where certainly not Topps' best years. ” -koloth42

“ The Cardinals have some great unis, but a stripe down the legs of the pants would be a nice touch. ” -jlaz10

“ I actually really like this card. Its simple and you dont need a magnifing glass to read it :) ” -engine614

“ I'm sure I saw him play, but I don't remember him. I like the card design though. ” -jupiterhill

“ I really prefer the red cap/helmet or the home Sunday bird cap on Cardinals cards. 1993 was one of the better-looking Topps sets of the 1990s. ” -switzr1

“ I really like this set, despite the absence of a team logo on front. 1993 was the year Topps finally upgraded their base set card stock to match what Donruss and Fleer had done in 1992, and slightly ahead of what Score had been using since 1988 (and the back looked more like what Score had been producing than anything Topps had ever done). As with every year from 1988-1993, I bought tons of these aimlessly. They even turned up at Big Logs around 2000 for something like $5 a box. I thought the Cardinals black helmets and caps looked really sharp, too. ” -DaClyde

“ Always dug the nameplate on '93 Topps, and I like the backs even though they get some flack for being difficult to read. Not much going on in this Rod Brewer card, though. ” -marcbrubaker

The year I stopped collecting cards - probably due to this ugly set. I am so glad I re-started back in 2012. Looking at this card now, I can't believe Topps did this to us.
