Year: 1990

Set: Donruss (Rate)

Card: #668 Bill Landrum

“ I like this design other than the player's name on the front- it just doesn't work for me. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ If anyone is missing this card from their collection, let me know, I probably have 30. I liked this set back then, and it sure was plentiful. ” -vrooomed

“ This is what happens when card companies give there family member who's fresh out of rehab a job designing cards. ” -Young Kilo

“ I'm surprised we dont see more of this set for COTD. I don't collect baseball cards and I STILL have a million of these :) ” -SFC Temple

“ I have to say, this is a very logical, clean design. ” -DarkSide830

“ WOW, what a breakout year for this guy in 1989. Check his stats on the back. ” -carthage44

“ My wife's response on seeing this set for the first time, "did they mean to make them that color?" A very memorable set, but only for the background color. ” -Mitch

“ Say what you will about this set (and the 91 Fleer All Yellow set) but I still like this set. The simplicity of a uniform design and color doesn't happen much anymore. It helps identify cards from the set. The problem with many of the sets now is there are so many different elements for sub-sets that it is difficult to know what is what anymore. ” -captkirk42

“ A very bland looking card that somehow still manages to look dated. ” -ketchupman36

“ 1990 Donruss has grown on me. I wasn't a fan at release, but I really like them today. And Bill was coming off a really good season for the Pirates, coming out of nowhere to post some very respectable numbers for a pretty bad team. ” -switzr1

My single favorite thing about this card is the little "90" on the front. It tells me what year it is clearly. On the front! I confess, I haven't memorized every year's look. After about 1988, I have to flip the card and see what the last year of stats is, then add a year. And sometimes I have to actually try to read the copyright date, which isn't even there on older cards. A nice simple year on the front. Ahhhhhh.

Again, the horrible Donruss backs with their "recent major league performance".

Love the look of the set, but who ever did the Quality checks on the set, hopefully was moved to a different department. This set was full of errors.

I know nothing of this set, and it's been said 1000 times, but I honestly don't understand the 100's of errors on baseball cards. One person could look through every card in a set and catch all the stupid errors I catch in about three hours. Drives me nuts.
