Year: 2005

Set: Donruss Throwback Threads - Throwback Collection (Rate)

Card: #TC-50 Lance Berkman

“ Didn't we just have another card from this same set last week? Clearly designed for a relic or autograph- or both- making the basic version look incomplete. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ It looks like there should be a jersey swatch and they forgot to put it in. This card is terrible, and I like Lance Berkman! ” -switzr1

“ Had some great years in Houston! Card design is so so. Not bad, but not great looking either! ” -Joshua825

“ The wasted space is where the "Threads" are supposed to go, but why even make a base card of a special design for a mem card? There is not one appealing thing about this card. ” -rmpaq5

“ Too much wasted space but they produce it that way because there is a memorabilia version of this card. ” -carthage44

“ I see from the blueprints that the right-hand side was all planned out, but apparently Donruss didn't get around to adding that relic they'd intended to include. Berkman was pretty good, but not for long enough. ” -dilemma19

“ Can someone explain this set and it's name to me? I don't see any threads. Berkman is wearing a new uniform not a throwback. Seems very misleading ” -NJDevils

“ I totally thought Berkman would be a lifer Astro. Then he ended up on four teams in his last four years in the league, or something like that. Still a great player, and I enjoyed watching him play for my Cardinals for a short time. ” -Brimose

“ Pretty much every insert Donruss put on in 2005 was designed with the relic, autograph, and relic autograph parallels in mind. That's why there's so much wasted space on the base cards. ” -cynicalbuddha

“ Pretty cool! might have space for more, like a jersey...... ” -Thomas555

“ Never been a huge fan of relic (game used and what not) type cards. The sets that are devoted to them even more so, because of base cards like this that have huge blank spots on them for the swatch or piece of memorabilia to be glued onto/into the card. ” -captkirk42

“ What a super boring card, are supposed to have a game used piece or not? Sooooooo much wasted space ” -aussiewayne

“ Is this a memorabilia card? If not, too much wasted space. I am not liking it. ” -muskie027

“ Here, enjoy this blank space... ” -SaveDaKid

Well done Donruss!  You released a mini card (forgot to cut off the rest) before they became mainstream.

2005 was the year Donruss' MLB and MLBPA licenses expired and they weren't being renewed. They rushed out some terrible looking products in order to cash in on the time they had remaining. I'll never forget buying a box of 2005 Donruss Champions and being utterly disappointed.
