Year: 1960

Set: Topps (Rate)

Card: #39 Doyle Nix

“ The 1959 set is my favorite Topps football set, but the 1960 cards are dull as heck. Same for the 1959 and 1960 baseball sets, come to think of it. I wonder if they had a hotshot designer in 1959 who left, and then some dullard took over, or the company wanted less flash that year, or what. As a bonus, i suppose all the first-year Cowboys players are wearing the uniforms of different teams, that's always gross. ” -revnorb

“ Love the vintage cards! ” -olerud363

“ One of my favorite sets. You won't hear the term "Ace" used on a card back anymore ” -SFC Temple

“ More vintage football! Great picture here. Former Washington player too. ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ I don't know how long he played for Dallas, but he was on the team for their inaugural season. He's been on my Want List for some time. ” -Sportzcommish

“ Nice vintage card. ” -cjjt

“ Great 60's football player name. ” -carthage44

“ I remember these well. As a kid, the fun part was scratching off the cartoon. When these came out, football was not on TV too often, neither was baseball, so you really didn't know the players that well. ” -NJDevils

“ Intimidating upward-angle photograph! ” -dilemma19

“ Cool vintage football. I loved the scratch off cartoons/quizes from the 60s cards. I actually with they were manufactured in a better way or they didn't bother with the "scratch-off" concept. It was a fun kid thing, but as a collector it is frustrating when you can't see what the dang thing is. I love the 1960 set. I have all the marked Redskins from the set, oddly I don't have this card A Redskin who was drafted to the expansion Rangers/Cowboys. A few months back I had gotten a Cowboy who was a Brown and Drafted to the Cowboys but like Mr. Nix here never actually played a game for them. IN the 60s this kind of card was quite common for a player to be shown in one uniform and the card showing him on his "new" team. They hadn't yet started the airbrushing thing which lead to the photoshop thing ” -captkirk42

“ That's a man's haircut right there. Way to go...erm...Doyle. ” -mkaz80

“ I never knew that the Cowboys wore red ” -rmitchell6700

“ I'm colorblind, but I feel like this isn't a Cowboys uniform. Cool card though. ” -switzr1

“ I know that's not a Cowboys uniform, but until I turned the card over and saw that it was Washington. I wouldn't have known who it was. There's just something weird about seeing cards of players in uniform with no identifying marks. Also really cool to see that he was an old-school "ironman" playing both sides of the ball! ” -jasongerman9

“ That look when you cant remember if you turned the propane off the grill. ” -parsley24

Absolutely classic disign.  I love the small borders and graphics, allowing for a large image.  They just don't make cards like this anymore.
