Year: 2009

Set: TriStar Obak (Rate)

Card: #99 William Howard Taft

“ “If I twist my hand, my arm gets longer.” ” -Kirkland_347

“ Taft was the first president who embraced the automobile. He ordered the first four presidential automobiles as soon as he took office. At least one is still extant and was recently featured in Hemmings Classic Car. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ A fist bump from the President! ” -Gunny

“ I did a book report on him back in middle school! ” -carthage44

“ OH Cool a President on a retro card. However for some reason I am not a fan of Obak card designs. I don't know why. I think because the first time I saw one was on a blog of a blogger who mostly does a ton of customized cards and I thought they were customized cards. ” -captkirk42

“ I do not like this throwback card. ” -kirkscards

“ "Fist bump to all my homies on The Trading card Database"! ” -YoRicha

“ “I’m off to see the wizard. . . the wonderful wizard of oz.” ” -Kirkland_347

“ I would be impressed if the card was from 1909. Being it's from 2009 does nothing for me. ” -NJDevils

“ Not sure what it is, since I never heard of TriStar Obak and it says baseball. We need more really cool modern card sets commemorating things. This would be cool if it was a set of all presidents. ” -muskie027

“ I love it! First president to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game. Although it looks more like he could be punching somebody. Modern Obak really has some fun sets, though I own very few. ” -switzr1

“ I'd be into this card...if it were 50 to 100 years older. But still, nice enough. ” -Vvvergeer

I'm surprised no one mentioned he was the president that started the seventh inning stretch.

And I'm surprised no one mentioned him getting stuck in the tub, LOL!

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

I really like this set.  Julie (A Cracked Bat: Baseball Cards and a Hot Dog) sent a couple of these to me last year. :)

About the only connection to this card for me is that I actually did work (back in the 1980's) for a company by the name of TriStar although we didn't manufacture cards but rather manufactured ambulances and other like vehicle conversions ans I believe the company is still in existence today. During the 1980's a large number of said ambulances were sold and delivered to the country of Iraq ,some 350 as I recall in one batch!

Sheep boy, that's how it used to be spelled.

This set has a lot of people significant to the game for reasons other than their stats.  I'm a big fan and want more of them.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Another baseball connection...Taft's brother Charles owned the Cubs.  And Charles is buried in the same cemetery as HOFers Waite Hoyt and Miller Huggins.  And let me tell you, Hoyt's tombstone was a hard one to find.

He also got stuck in the seat at the ballpark. That's why he got up in the middle of the seventh inning, on openning day no less. Everyone thought he was leaving, so they got up out of respect. But, he sat back down, and so did everyone else. And VOILA, the seventh inning stretch was invented. I don't remember the year though.

I never knew that...cool! I also didn't know it was an actual strech and not just a figure of speech.
