Random Card of the Day

Year: 1941

Set: Gum Inc. Superman (R145) (Rate)

Card: #69 Saved from Burial Alive

“ Awesome! This set was ranked in my top 3 most wanted for many years until I finally found three of them in 2014...locally, no less! This is the first comic book set ever, Superman had only debuted 3 years earlier. I had my first comic read to me at 5 days old and I credit the medium with my large lexicon, interest in science and printed media, and so much more. Superman was in that first comic but did not play a large role. This is my favorite Card of the Day in 2018 so far. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I want to join the club. I want a valuable prize. ” -switzr1

“ Simply awesome. ” -ShoTime

“ "On the third day, Superman opened the tomb..." ” -mkaz80

“ I was never a big Superman fan, but, the artwork on this card is wonderful. The card looks an odd size as well, I guess that was common back in those days. ” -Gunny

“ Not a fan of superhero stuff but this is a classic. ” -carthage44

“ Nothing short of awesome....would love to see the whole set. ” -tbshaw

“ Nice! Now I don’t collect non-sport, but have to appreciate the nostalgia of the card. ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ I love this card and the story on the back. ” -gregman1000

“ Just a wonderful card! ” -NJDevils

“ If you look closely, you can see where they airbrushed out his mustache. ” -OCHawkeye

“ Vintage Superman Yes Yes Yes. Oh this would be a wonderful set to chase. A bit difficult but wonderfully fun to chase. ” -captkirk42

“ "No, Superman! Don't squash that kid with a giant boulder! He's a Boy Scout, for crying out loud!" ....Oh, wait. The back claims he's SAVING the kid. My bad. ” -Vvvergeer

“ It's a bird. It's a plane. It's ..... SUPERMAN! Wish I had some of these. ” -jayoneill

“ beyond awesome ” -UKboogie

“ Nice!!! I love the story on the back as well. This was back when superheros were superheros! ” -RoyalChief

“ Sweet!!!!! ” -cjjt

“ It's much less efficient to buy a comic one panel at a time. ” -DanD

“ I love the old look to Superman. This is pretty cool. On the negative, there is no logo on the front, I don't see a name, so I had to turn it over to see it is Superman and the back has NO stats, let alone just the current year. Sorry, I couldn't resist! ” -muskie027

I believe this is the first time ever a "Show more comments" drop down box was ever required for Card of the day.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

Oops...I was on yesterday and didn't notice! Maybe it was later...I think the last time I checked was around noon. Or, maybe I'm blind.

Not blind. I think it showed up sometime after 5:00 PM EDT. I didn't manage to get out of bed yesterday until after 1:00 PM (so sick) but I didn't see it at first, and then later on in the evening - there it was!

I rarely comment on the RCOTD but this was a nice read as almost all of the comments were positive. Any vintage card, sport or non-sport is a good card. Yes, if I found some of these (at a reasonable price) I would grab them. Much better than many of the cards that are produced today.

How can you not like " The Man of Steel " ?  Cool card set and first I've ever seen of them, probably not all that common up here in remote New Brunswick, Canada ! Oh well you never know...maybe some day.

This card showed up too early.  It's ripe for next Tuesday's "Caption this card".

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
