Most people here are good about "value" and offer more value when they propose a trade. I've had some of those "91 fleer common" type trades offered and just ignored them when I first started trading here. Now I spend too going back through people's trade list to try and find similar value type cards when they want my star cards. Personally if someone wants a $5 card as part of a trade I prefer to at least get a $5 card back as part of the trade instead of 300 of those 91 fleer commons.  I most likely have 250 of those cards in boxes I haven't looked at in years.

Prices aren't always right.  Traders have to evaluate the comparisons and share card conditions with each other to determine value.

I think the majority do value each others' collections and will attempt to work with each other. I worked out a deal with someone who didn't do a card-for-card deal regardless of era, but sought more quantity to cover the valuation difference. Most of my deals have been straightforward or with minor tweaks, while a few require major adjustments. Very few, but there have been some, don't negotiate to find common ground which is part of the fun in trading. Instead when I've fished for common ground by letting them know my desire in a counter, those few will simply decline to go further. I prefer working out a deal. Then if we cannot work out an agreement, then that's fine, too, but at least we tried.

I'd like for admin to add a feature where we identify the standard(s) we use to value cards in trade. And, allow it to be seen on the pending trade feature based on the standards agreed to. 

For the most part, all of my trades were proposed by the other member and they were of fair trade value. People here have been very generous intheir offers.  The only time I declined was when someone offered me 1980s and 90s for 1950s and 60s.  I rather keep my vintage cards to trade for similar cards.

I also have certain players I collect under a different ID and those, I rather get the same or similar star player in my collection for my doubles,  This is just so that I continue to increase my collection on those players.

I am quite new to this site and have made a few trades. At first I tried to offer to buy the cards outright for cash as it is simple and straight foreward. This did not seem to go over well so I have resorted to trading. When I propose I try to offer fair and skew the value to the person I am contacting. I have had quite a few trades sent to me where the person wants older cards in trade for 1989-1990 era nickel and dime commons, card for card. A recent proposed wanted 3 1975 topps cards ($2-$3) and offered 5 or 6 1989-90 nickel/dime cards in return, I looked and they had 10 more nickel/dime cards on my want list so I countered just to make the trade since someone put in the effort even though the value was about 2:1 in their favor. Much to my surprise it was declined. Another trade proposed to me was 22 for 22 cards. They wanted 1960's-70's cards and a some oddball newer cards ($1-$3 ones), I would get 21 1988-90 nickel/dime cards and one $2 card in return. Just to be clear I am approximating the values from random glances at the median prices here,knowing what some card types generally sell for, etc.
