I've had two successful buys (both off of craigslist by the way)..One was a massive collection of cards (350K I'm estimating) a few weeks back that was clearly inventory from a card store (or dealer) that closed down and made its way from California to here in Denver. Unfortunately nothing is sorted and I'be only had time to do an initial pass through to see what is there..I just bought a smaller collection of 70K cards on Friday night and there are decent cards in that one as well. Again, looks like someone was trying to sell them at a show, etc.
Sadly, I have seen some extremely interesting looking ads on Craigslist and FB Marketplace for some cards/sets that were potentially really good buys. I played email tag with the buyers and then they all went silent which is a shame because I was ready to purchase or at least make an offer.
The guy I dealt with on Friday said he had 5-6 potential sales and then they all fell through, not sure if that's what scares off the sellers or not. I do know that when you are dealing with large collections (and with people not knowing exactly what they have) it's such a gamble on both sides of the house and really becomes a game of how much am I willing to pay? Similarly, there's such a small market for someone to buy a massive amount of cards not knowing what it contains or what one will do with them..
So, I will still keep looking hoping to score some deals and try to figure out a way to sneak the cards into my basement without the wife knowing..
