“ Speechless, do people actually buy these? ” -carthage44

“ (after browsing the rest of the set) I'd put this one in the trash, no questions asked. ” -volbox

“ I sense the 50's, 60's, and 70's making a comeback with their phoney funnies and puzzle back connections now... "All new series..." Saw it over 30 years ago, Topps. Thanks for playing!!! Besides that... COOL CARD and I WANT THE SET!!!! ” -Dixxy

“ I have no idea why these are popular...or even exist. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ If you're a child of the 70s, like I am, you know the impact Wacky Packages had back in the day. There has never been a non-sport issue- not Garbage Pail Kids, not Mars Attacks, not Star Wars- that caused such a commotion with kids. When each new series came out, it was like a holiday in my hometown of Garwood, NJ. In fact, Wacky Packages OUTSOLD baseball cards for a good portion of their 1973-75 run. This sticker (yes, they're stickers, and there wasn't a stop sign or school desk back in the day that wasn't adorned with a Wacky Pack) is part of the new run which began in 2004. And yes, my kids collected them- in spite of the fact I could never get them into collecting baseball cards long-term. ” -Dave Sosidka

“ Wow...I thought you were baseball, baseball, and baseball! Glad to see you branching out and I love it! Cheers! ” -bkklaos

“ I remember these! ” -jlaz10

“ There are no words.... ” -suomibear8

This was a great item for kids.   Remember, they were aiming for kids, not adults.   We had similar items in the early 60s.    When you are 9 year old, this type of card is hilarious.   Think back.

I have some of the phoney's funny cards from '62.  Betty Rocker's, Old Mice, Cowards Medal... You can look at these types of cards and stickers and say, "What a waste of money," all you like.  The big kicker is Novelty Sells.  Weird Al Yankovich, Ray Stevens, Tommy Lehrer are all Novelty artists in their own way.  I can almost  guarantee most of you have heard of and love a song from at least 2 of these artists.  The novelty cards from the sixties come with memories from the kids that collected them.  you flash a Betty Rocker card under one of these people and I'd bet they'd say something along the line of "I remember when I got that card!!"

Bringing the idea back was an excellent play for Topps.  The money aspect, kids who never collected a card before will all of a sudden be picking these up and holding on to them.  20 years down the road when we're still saying "Waste of money,"  They'll be saying "I remember when I got that sticker!!"

I am and forever shall I be a fan of the Novelty genre.
