Random Card of the Day

Year: 2012

Set: Topps Platinum (Rate)

Card: #15 Tim Tebow

“ Tim Tebow? Never heard of him. ” -Howintensive

“ Poor Tebow, I feel bad for the guy. I am truly being sincere when I say that. This guy might not have been a great QB but he just won PERIOD! Still surprised no one gave him a shot after the Patriots cut him. The Jaguars would have been a perfect fit for him since that is near his hometown and the Jaguars had nothing to lose and it would have brought some fans to their games. ” -carthage44

“ All he does is w....wait where did he go? ” -jupiterhill

“ My favorite Tebow memory is Jimmy Fallon's Tebowie song (lol) ” -Billy Kingsley

“ John Elway had a cannon for an arm. Threw some of the prettiest spirals. It must of been torture for him to watch Tebow throw ” -Young Kilo

“ Heeeeeeeey! I finally got a card I scanned selected as card of the day! Have enjoyed the Platinum cards from Topps, and have completed each set over the last three years. Really like that the sets are small, and only feature stars (and Tebow!). Scan doesn't do it justice.. The bluish background is refractor, giving the card a nice appearance when moved. Looking forward to starting on this year's set! ” -wamk

“ Looks like a cross between a football card and a razor package. ” -revnorb

“ Hahahahahaha ” -jlaz10

“ Tim Tebow the best QB since Ryan Leaf. The only thing bigger than his ego was the Tebowing fad. Never been happier to see a guy fail. I know not very nice, but he was so hyped that I couldn't help but not like him. I only hope that Johnny Football doesn't follow in his footsteps. ” -yokonashiwa

Not a Gators fan. Not an NFL fan. But I believe Tebow showed enough with Denver that proved he could help a team win. He didn't fail, he was pushed out because being a good guy who's proud of his faith is no longer acceptable in our crappy society.

That's part of it.  The other part is his style of play isn't usually the style of play as most NFL teams run.  It also didn't help that he had so much of a media circus surrounding him so much.  Much like Johnny Manziel, the circus is crazy.  If he had no circus, he would have possibly still been playing.  Personally I like him, and glad he put his faith first.

As for this card, I like the look of this card.

Tebow is not an NFL QB. No one forced him out because of his religion. If you have enough talent, you will get the shot. Michael Vick proved that when he was accepted back into the NFL. There have been plenty of overtly religious people who have been successful and popular in the NFL. Reggie White, who was an ordained Evangelical minister, comes to mind.

College football history is littered with QBs who were wildly successful while in college and total flops in the NFL. Tebow is in that group. Nothing more nothing less.

Tebow was pushed out because of his faith and the media circus that followed it. There are plenty of other backup QBs that are still in the league that are far worse than Tebow. Most of Tebow's stats reflect that he was a better QB than people gave him credit for. Here they are: Regular Season Games played: 34 Games started: 16 Win-Loss record: 8-6 Completion %: 47.9 Passing yards: 2,422 Passing TDs: 17 Interceptions: 9 QB Rating: 75.3 Rushing yards: 989 Rushing TDs: 12 Fumbles lost: 6 Playoff record: 1-1 Playoff TDs: 3 (2 pass and 1 rush) Playoff INTs: 0 Sure, his down side was his completion % but he was very good at protecting the ball and always coming up big late in games with a big pass or run. He played in 23 games (14 starts) with the Broncos and scored 29 touchdowns (threw for 17 and ran for 12). Those are very good number for his limited playing time. Do I think he is a great QB? No, but he is not one of the worst. Tebow is truly a great person (just look at all the charity work he does) and was a pure gamer. The NFL doesn't like the focus to be on just one player and that is what Tebow got from fans and the media. He never asked for all this attention but the media ate it up. I am not a Tebow lover (you might think so with my long rant) but I think it is very unfair for all the hatred he got from fans, media and the NFL.

Y'all might be right about Tebow, but I don't think he got pushed out because of his faith.  It was well known that John Elway didn't want Tebow and thus he was never really going to get a true shot.  Especially, since Peyton Manning became available.  When Tebow went to the Jets and became the backup to Mark Sanchez, a guy Tim Tebow should have been able to out perform, it showed he wasn't really that good.  Then when he couldn't even make the Patriots as a backup, that was the nail in the coffin.  Tim Tebow might be a great guy in person, but if the scouts, coaches, and players don't believe you have the ability to really help teams win or that you can't throw a pass that isn't a duck, then it won't help matter how great and religious you are in the NFL.  There are plenty of very religious players in the NFL, but they also had the NFL level talent to play the game.  Now if Tim Tebow was coming out in today's QB running NFL, he might be a little more successful, but then again, he is still young and there are always teams needing a QB later in the season, so why isn't he called upon instead of Jon Kitna, Matt Flynn, Terrell Pryor, Vince Young, or JaMarcus Russell?

What I heard was that he wasn't smart enough to memorize the play book they gave him every week. The raw talent was there but no brains. Is that possible?

I don't think his being a fanatic bible pusher had anything to do with the way his career turned out. He has supposedly kept himself in playing shape and I wouldn't be shocked if the Rams gave him a look this year given their current qb situation. It would certainly be a welcome diversion from the whole Ray Rice Greg Hardy Adrian Peterson debacle.
