Year: 1966

Set: O-Pee-Chee (Rate)

Card: #140 Jim Maloney

“ OPC, but no French. Still, love these, and would love to have a complete set of OPC from ANY year (pre-1990). ” -vrooomed

“ Jim and Astros P Don Wilson pitched back-to-back no-nos in 1969 at Crosby Field. ” -BOBSCARDZ

“ In my lifetime (since 1974), only Carlton, Gooden, Smoltz, and R. Johnson have had a higher wins total in the NL than Maloney's 23 in 1963. But he tied for 3rd that year behind Koufax and Marichal. I wouldn't mind seeing Maloney in a Heritage or Archives set. Other than buybacks, he hasn't been on a card since 2001. And there are a LOT of sets that include retired players. ” -switzr1

“ I absolutely love the diagonal stripe with the team name on the top left of the card. CLASSIC!!! ” -carthage44

“ The Reds had some beautiful vests. Interestingly enough, their player names were underneath the numbers on the back. ” -jlaz10

I actually have this card in my partial set.  I am in Canada and even here, it is hard to find O Pee Chee cards from the 1960s.  I am trying to complete all of the sets 17 of 30 years complete but none of the 1960s.  Oldest complete is 1974 with 1970 missing 40 cards.

@sandyrusty: How I envy that collection!! :) I fell in love with OPC cards in 1981, when my LCS dealer (who I sorted cases for) out together a package in lieu of pay and included packs of 1979 OPC. Pulling a couple of Phillies was the highlight, but I loved them immediately. The whiter stock, the feel, the rough edges (ha!), and the bilingual everything. (BTW, the package he put together was well worth skipping getting paid that time!)

The only bad thing about O Pee Chee in the 70s was that they were notorious for poor centering on many of their cards.
