“ One of the all-time greats! ” -cckeith

“ The Great One, one of the best moves the Buccos ever made was snatching him in the rookie draft when the Dodgers were trying to "hide" him as a bench player in Montreal. ” -Gunny

“ I love TOPPS ARCHIVES, especially the 1994 [1954] set. I have both regular and gold sets. Clemente + 6 other cards, have the reverse back ERRORS, also there are "orange variations" and "orange gold" SPs. My kinda set! ~BOB~ ” -BOBSCARDZ

“ I know people rip these reprints but for most people this will the closest you can get. ” -carthage44

“ I'd rather have the 1954 version, but as this is in my budget range, it would satisfy me! ” -bkklaos

“ Great card. Imagine an outfield of Jackie Robinson in left.Duke Snyder in center and Roberto Clemente in right. Would have been amazing ” -Garygriv

“ My dad's favorite player. I remember him telling me about Roberto. When my dad played, he had the same number. ” -JimStaub

“ Is it just me, or is it kinda ridiculous they couldn't get the player photos centered properly, leaving all this empty green space on the card? How hard and obvious an adjustment would that have been? ” -revnorb

“ I didn't even know he was a Dodgers prospect. Nice cap, too. ” -jlaz10

By the way, there never was a 1954 version of this card.  The original set only had 250 cards.  The Archives set had 248 of those cards plus 8 add on ones including this Clemente.  A very nice set, either in 1954 or 1994.

I guess that would put a 1954 Clemente card in my price range, as it would be a "fraud"!

I don't do reprints, and I was prepared to ignore this one. I thought I didn't like reprints just because I like the thought of having a card that is really old and was in the hands of some kid 50 years ago. But now, reading the totally hokey back on this card, I see that there are other strong reasons to loathe reprints.  I suppose if this was a "real" reprint that duplicated an old card, except with a more recent copyright, it might be cool. But if other "reprints" (and I guess this isn't one, since it was never printed in the first place) have the ridiculous hindsight prediction narrative on the back, you can keep 'em.

You know, just other day, I was looking at my old Craig Biggio cards, and was intrigued to find one that said he was on his way to a Hall of Fame career about seven years before his career was over.  That was cool. This -- not so much.

But I didn't know he was with Brooklyn, so that's something I learned....
