Year: 2009

Set: Wheels Main Event - Playing Cards Blue (Rate)

Card: #10♥ Brian Vickers

“ My all time least favorite NASCAR set. The entire thing was built around poker. A waste of cardboard in my opinion, made doubly so by the fact that they dropped Wheels American Thunder for it. You could build an entire deck of playing cards if you so chose- the blue was retail, the red back version hobby. Vickers has battled blood clots and is out of the car again while he tries to get them fixed. For the first time a replacement has been hired that was not labeled as temporary so it may be the end of his career. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Nice job Billy...another hit! I'm off to Seattle in a week and will be playing in my first Texas Hold'em Tourney...don't imagine I'll be dealt one of these cards though! ” -bkklaos

“ Are we playing Blackjack now? Gimme an Ace! ” -koloth42

“ I really dislike Nascar but these are cool cards. ” -carthage44

“ Hmm when I see cards like this by themselves I wonder were they part of a 52 card "deck" or where they for a set to look like playing cards and there could be any number of cards in the set/deck? Oh I should of just said "Who is the Joker who came up with the idea for this card?" ” -captkirk42

They also issued a number of baseball sets like these as well.   Complete 52 card sets with jokers.   Why?   Good question

To me, a set like this only  makes sense if you can buy the deck in a box, like any deck of cards.  Lots of people collect decks of cards, so that would appeal to two different types of collectors.  But to put them into packs where you have to collect the whole deck makes no sense to me.  What if Bicycle did that with their regular playing cards?  "No poker tonight boys....I still don't have a six of clubs!"

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I really didn't like that release, but I like the playing cards insert set. Since I didn't like the main set, I only have a few of the playing cards (and the Poker Chips).

"captkirk": It was a complete deck of 52 cards with 2 Joker cards, but they were individually inserted into packs.

The baseball decks I remember were all sold as a complete deck and were of All-Stars. I still have one of them, I think it was 1991.
