Random Card of the Day

Year: 1978

Set: Kellogg's 3-D Super Stars (Rate)

Card: #27 Tom Seaver

“ This would have been a great card without the fake signature. I saw some of these Kellogg's 3-D cards in person for the first time a few weeks ago, and they are really cool. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ As a kid, ate many boxes of cereal to get some of these. Now I work in Battle Creek, home of Kellogg's, and can smell the cereal being toasted every day.Cards cracked if you didn't handle them carefully. Tom Terrific was a great one! ” -Kaline6

“ Tom Terrific. One of the greats. The only Met player to have his number retired. A very dark day in Mets history when Seaver was traded. The next 3 seasons the Mets finished last. Attendance dropped to less than 10,000 in a stadium that held 57,000. At least the two men responsible were fired. I never cared for the '78 Kellogg's design. The too much ribbon getting in the way. ” -C2Cigars

“ Did these come is cereal boxes? If they did, I would have bought a lot of cereal! ” -carthage44

“ The best thing about these Kellogg's cards was the semi-transparent paper pouches they came in. I guess you could still be surprised once you'd choked down enough corn flakes to be able to dig it out of the cereal box... ” -dilemma19

“ Not impressed with the 3D but anything given away to a kid in a box of cereal is pretty cool. Back in the 50s and 60s when I was a kid, they did this quite often......and no one ate the giveaway. Can't do that today, somebody is afraid a kid might eat a plastic figure or 3D card. I say "bottoms up"! ” -NJdevils

“ I ate an awful lot of Corn Flakes as a kid to get enough proofs-of-purchase to get these sets each year. I love these sets to this day...Corn Flakes, not so much... ” -cckeith

“ Love me some Kellogg's 3-D cards. Prefer earlier 70s but later 70s are just as good. ” -captkirk42

I love these cards from 1970 thru 1983. Odd balls in the card collecting hobby that were all decent products.  I hope one day to have all of the sets.

Oh, and I do still eat Corn Flakes.  Unfortunately, there are rarely baseball-related prizes any more. Maybe Kaline6 can talk to the company and get them to restart these giveaways.

I doubt they would listen to me. As a kid my cereal consumption really went up when there were good premiums in them. Ahhh the good ole days!

The only "healthy" cereal I ate as a kid was Post Raisin Bran  in order to get the cards.    They stopped the cards,  I went back to Sugar Pops, which are now called Corn Pops.

Why even buy cereal with no prize? Rarely get anything these days, much less cards. Destroyed all the ones I had as a kid, had to see what gave them that 3-D effect.

Card? - Meh.

Player? - He's on my all-time top-10 list.  Unfortunately, all of those years living in New England gave him Lyme Disease, and he's suffering with it. That's why he doesn't do baseball-related things anymore.  I would like to see him at Jeter's HOF induction, since I think he'll beat Tom's vote record.

Peace and cards,

Residence in New England has no bearing on my favorite teams, players, or how I pronounce "card."
