Year: 2012

Set: Topps Magic (Rate)

Card: #189 Ben Roethlisberger

“ Solid card design. Looks like something out of the 1960s without looking forced. If I collected football I would have really liked this set. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I don't understand what makes this card magical, yet I wish it would disappear. Bonus points for mirror-readable trivia answer on the back! ” -dilemma19

“ The filters on the photo are horrendous. Just give me a clear, clean look. ” -wax_house

“ Topps Magic....what is that supposed to mean? Good quarterback, questionable off field however :/ ” -RoyalChief

“ It's Topps, which I like. Don't care for the "magical" stuff. I need stats on the back. ” -Kaline6

“ I love to root against this guy.. ” -carthage44

“ I hate the painted look of these cards. ” -cjjt

“ I was not thrilled when Topps revived the Magic brand from the pages of tobacco card history. However I do like that they finally started showing the pro players in their pro uniforms and not college uniforms. This is actually a nice looking card. The back is good for a commemorative set, but if this was a flagship set it would need stats. ” -captkirk42

Topps Magic is junk! This is another way that Topps forced me out of NFL cards and this was AFTER they pushed me away from MLB cards. I had been collecting MLB cards since the late-80's and it continued until the 2011 releases. Topps' Monopoly in MLB destroyed my interest in MLB cards and the competition with Panini for NFL cards was so childish-looking that I bailed on that too. I had never bailed on my 2 favorite sports in the card-world until 2011!!! I went to focusing entirely on NASCAR cards. That was a fantastic ride until Press Pass shut down just over a year ago. Panini has stepped up their releases since then, but their Customer Service appears to be just as horrible as Topps has been for the past decade. It really doesn't matter WHAT these companies make if they continue to screw over every collector that buy's any product they make. The hobby doesn't look good for the future!

I really hope that Panini does so much better with the NFL exclusive license than Topps has done with the MLB exclusive license they've had since 2011. The hobby is tanking constantly and my fear is that the companies don't care. People keep buying it and so they will keep pumping it out as fast as they can! It just keeps getting worse though.
