Random Card of the Day

Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Year: 2012

Set: Score - End Zone (Rate)

Card: #42 Harry Douglas

“ SN6! That's an odd number to SN to, at least it seems to me. Maybe if I knew the rules of football I would understand it's significance. It's cool, either way, and I think it may be the lowest SN to come up as Card of the Day...I don't really remember for sure though. Great rare card. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ My first impression is of a high school yearbook entry. The design is appealing apparently with team colors and the helmet positioned perfectly within the lower banner. However, the photo, although high quality in some aspects, is not what I'd expect from a professional action shot for a trading card. ” -Sportzcommish

“ Is this the lowest serial numbered card ever to be posted on Card of the Day? ” -carthage44

“ OK for a Score sup-set thingy. Panini really needs to up their game though since they have the exclusive for NFL cards. ” -captkirk42

“ nice look ” -Bargunmaster

“ At first I thought this was a Cleveland Browns card, then I saw Harry Douglas and realized it was a Falcons throwback uni. Looks like an insert serial number 5/6? If so, it is an odd card for a serial insert. Usually things as rare as a /6 card have a better look. Very mediocre card. Maybe it looks better in hand? ” -muskie027

My guess for the reason this card is numbered to 6 is that the subset/parallel (whatever) is called End Zone.  With a touchdown being worth 6 points...maybe there's a Goalpost subset numbered to 3? I don't know, just my best guess.  I like muskie027's comment; I saw the Falcons logo first, but after reading his comment and looking at just the picture, it does look like a Browns uniform. I don't think I'm a huge fan of the giant team logo plastered on the back taking up almost 1/3 of the card.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

It's a parallel. I wonder how much money would be required to complete the 400 card set? A whole lot, I'm guessing!

The only other numbered parallel is Red Zone to 20. Plus the printing plates, SN1. That does make sense though, and it sounds like they SHOULD have had a Goalpost parallel.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

How does no one that replied not know this? End Zone is a PARALLEL to the base set. Jason is probably right about the SN6 being b/c a Touchdown is worth 6 points. Score was a company that first released baseball cards in 1988. They added NFL cards in 1989. They produced the Pinnacle brand and Select brand cards in the early 1990's in both sports. Pinnacle later split from Score and then bought Score and also entered the NASCAR market. After Pinnacle shut down, Upper Deck either bought the brand-name or started using it when the trademark expired. Panini got the brand-name a few years later. Panini has really stuck to the concept and design of Score's history. "Scoreboard" was the original main parallel to the base set and then they started making other versions with different colors and names during the parallel-explosion of the early-mid 2000's.

You posted while I was typing my reply. I'm surprised that there are ONLY 3 parallels (not counting each plate color as a different one). Panini has been horrendous with making tons of parallels, but this was early in their Score run. Red Zone #'d to 20 makes complete sense as the "Red Zone" on the field starts 20 yards from the End Zone. I doubt that anyone has ever attempted to complete the base set parallels from this release though. As you said, I'm sure it would cost a ton of money. It really wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. It would be a helluva a challenge to complete though.

I didn't notice the serial number. I also thought it was insert not a parallel. Shows how much I've been paying attention to those things lately.
