Year: 1996

Set: Flair - Diamond Cuts (Rate)

Card: #5 Ken Griffey Jr.

“ Flair was around after I stopped collecting. This looks ok now, but I'll bet I would have liked it back then. I had a phase where I loved the computer backgrounds. Not so much now. ” -muskie027

“ One of my favorite overall years for cards, but I don't remember his set. And I'm not crazy about it. ” -switzr1

“ Nothing special about this card ” -kirkscards

“ Bland and lacks brilliance; it doesn't cut it for me. ” -Sportzcommish

“ Hmm, I've somehow never come across one of these in all my years of dime box digging. Anyhow, seems like one of those cards that's a real gem in person. ” -mkaz80

“ Griffey = Stud ” -carthage44

“ Being of the cardboard generation , I have never been a big fan of these flashy cards and Flair is one the flashiest. ” -uncaian

“ Nice insert card. Not much to look at. Probably better looking in hand than scanned. I noticed for a few of my Player collections I would probably need 3 or 4 of the cards from this set. At that rate it is almost worth going for the set. Maybe, but not too keen on it. ” -captkirk42

“ Exciting player; not a very exciting card. ” -cnangle

“ What a nice card! ” -nubala

Flair peaked for me in 1993, this card has a great player on it but the card…eh not so much.  If you look at the 1993 cards, skip the one at the top of the page.  I like the Brian McRae #221 card as I’m partial to my childhood team, the Royals.

I like this card.  Player is well depicted, not surrounded by a ton of computerized "flash".  Back did not need the same photo twice.  Give me more stats or relevant info.

I LOVE this card! I want some of them. I guarantee that the scan doesn't do this card justice. I've never seen one in-person, but I can just tell from the scan that it's awesome.

How can a brand peak in their 1st year? Just really curious about that. Flair continued to be a nice premium brand for many years and still one of my favorites from the 90's. Even when they got more affordable in the 2000's, they were still nice cards.
