Im just 2 cards away from completing my first ever set 1988-89 fleer basketball. Which hasnt been that easy as the cards i was missing around 20 or so i have been really fussy on nr mint or better cards with near perfect - perfect centering like my other cards from the set.
The other sets that i do own i got them complete so im getting pretty stoked im so close to actually collecting one. Just missing cards no #5 and #115 and the hunt is on!

Few things discussable on a family-friendly website are more satisfying than completing a set of cards. You never forget your first one. Best of luck on those final two cards....

Ive seen them. On ebay too between 3 and 7 bucks and the other card 1 to 3 bucks.
Trying to resist the temptation of just buying them and taking the easy route.

Sometimes, the easy route is the only route! It just depends on how fast you want to complete the set so you can start something new. This site is a great way to complete one by just trading though! Going the hard way, I JUST completed my 1993 Fleer Series 1 MLB set last weekend (Thanks terrbear). All 360 cards were either pulled by me or traded for along the way. I started that set when they came out in 1993!!! So it took me 25 years to get the final 20+ cards that I didn't pull from retail packs back then. The final 5-6 cards were all acquired in trades on here over the past year, but it had been about 3 years since I had added any to the set. I also got the last card to complete my 1992 Pinnacle Series 1 MLB set last year from a trade here (also taking 25 years from when I started). Those cards weren't even hard to get or star player cards.
I am not much of a set collector, but if I get really close from buying packs/boxes, then I want to complete it. For baseball, it's usually just a Series 1 or Series 2 release instead of the whole set. I've completed several Sets or Series' from MLB, NFL and NBA releases since I joined this site though! I think I only have 4 left now that I still want to complete (1998 Finest Series 2 MLB, 2011 Topps Rising Rookies NFL, and these two NASCAR sets - 2011 Press Pass Fanfare Holofoil Die-Cut parallel set and Championship Caliber insert set). I completed all 3 of the NBA sets I was still chasing after joining this site (1992-93 Stadium Club and Ultra AND 1994-95 Ultra).

that would drive me crazy having to wait to long, but i must commend you patience lol . i was never much of a set collector, i always would rather have individual players that had meaning rather than a set where there was a couple players i liked and 100 that meant nothing. but like you, if i cracked enough boxes to almost complete a set i continued with it. but since i got married 2yrs ago, cracking that many boxes dwindled, which leaves me to 3 sets left i'm going to have to try and complete-- football 04 SPx - i got lucky and got the Ben, Eli and Rivers cards at good prices along the way (just need a couple left), the '16 Contenders (football) just the big $ one's and some SSP's left, and the '16 baseball Bowman purple prospects - down to two left. hopefully i'll be able to continue sets this year, but def back with singles. good luck to you all though!

I love collecting that way. It's probably why I have so few complete sets. Trading, buying packs, or buying at shows is the way I like to do it. Hope you can complete it soon!

I'm happy to complete a set in any way I can, and I confess it's 97% buying these days. And if I get within even 10 cards of a completing a set, I buy those cards instantly, probably paying 30% or more in excess of their value. Unless it's one high end card that's in my way. I suspect the '68 Nolan Ryan will the last card I get from that set, and I'll take my time about procuring it.
But, again, congrats.
