I forgot all about basketball tonight. I went to trivia night with some co-workers and we finished 2nd place!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

You all do realize that I know about as much about college basketball as I do about rainforests in Africa?
I know that they exist.
Here's funny story for you - when I got my first job out of college, I was working in Stamford, CT, and I started in Feb. Well, a month later, and well, you know the season. This was 1995. And all the talk there was about UConn. Well, I didn't SEE the name in writing, I just lept HEARING it. And I couldn't understand (at first) what the fuss was about, and why everyone would be such big fans of some western territory in Canada! When I asked my wife, after the 15 minutes of laughter, I finally got the explanation, and I then truly understood. True story - hope you got a good laugh out of that one.

That's hilarious Dan! Great story and thanks for sharing it.
I was just talking to someone about UConn the other day, but it was about the women's basketball team. I STILL don't understand how they've been so dominant for so many years now. I know they have a great coach, but in college you have to keep getting great new players almost yearly. There are a lot of college basketball teams that are usually good every year (no matter the sex of the players), but the domination the UConn women have had for so many years now hasn't happened in any sport for a very long time, even with the Pro's.
As for the Men's NCAA Tourney, my Champ is still alive and I picked 3 of the Elite 8. Normally, I would think that is just crap. But this year has been so odd and challenging. It's also odd that both games in the Midwest were decided by 4 points each, but the East Region games were both won by double-digits.

We're down to two. The Kansas-Villanova final four game will determine our champion. If Kansas wins, Vrooomed is the champ. If Villanova wins, SunDevilCollection is the champ. The Michigan-loyola game has no bearing. The title game has no bearing. Only that second semifinal game matters. Several people can still move up the standings, but only one of those two can win.

Personally I'm still pulling for Loyola-Chicago (because a) Cinderella and b) as a Notre Dame fan I can't consciously root for Michigan), but good luck to our participants!

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

I knew I was done when Duke lost. That was a helluva game though! I think that was also only the 2nd Tourney game to go into overtime this year. Personally, I guess I'm rooting for Villanova b/c they've been SO CLOSE the past few years. But honestly, I'd be happiest to see Michigan win the title.
jasongerman9, I'm still upset that ND didn't get in the NCAA Tourney! Since NCSU, FSU and Syracuse got in, ND should have made it too. It sucks that they had to settle for the NIT. The ACC was the toughest conference this year and ND got bounced b/c of that. If they had beat Duke in the ACC tourney, they would've probably made the NCAA Tourney. I think that was the back-breaker for them. However, UNC and VA went down well before Duke did. Syracuse made a surprising run through the NCAA tourney though. I didn't expect them to win a game after the play-in game, but even the game vs. Duke was a great game to watch.
Everyone should watch out for Duke in the 2018-19 season though. Even with Grayson Allen graduating and Bagley surely declaring for the NBA Draft and getting picked in the Top-3, Duke has a good team lined up for next season. I'm sure that Duval and Trent stay at Duke and Wendell Carter might stay too. But Duke also has 3 of the Top-10 high school players joining the team next season. Duke also had a pretty deep bench this year and that hasn't been the case for several years. I'd like to see more of David Robinson's son on the court for Duke next season. Jack White and O'Connell are very good (and tall) bench players for Duke too. I can't wait for the '18-19 season!

Missing Bonzie Colson for much of the year definitely hurt the Irish this year. Do I think they should have made the NCAA tournament? Kind of. I think they deserved it, but they certaintly had a better chance of winning the NIT than the NCAA tournament this year. Regardless, this senior class leaves a legacy. I'm proud of the Irish (and proud to be an Irish fan!).
I would agree about Villanova. If they end up winning it, that would be pretty cool. But I'm a sucker for a Cinderella. Go Loyola!

I also love a Cinderella team, but I don't see Loyola beating Michigan and certainly don't see them beating 'Nova or Kansas. Then again, I didn't have them beating Miami either and certainly not Tennessee. They got really lucky to face Nevada instead of Cincinnati! The luck continued as they didn't have to face UVA, Arizona or Kentucky in the Elite 8 Round. Until the whooping of KState, Loyola won 3 games by a total of 4 points. They wouldn't have been close in a game against any of the Top-5 seeds in that bracket.
No matter what the final outcome is, the games to decide the Championship Game will be fun to watch. Both games should be a battle. But I still see a #1 seed winning the title.
As for Notre Dame, they really need to use the fact that they are in the ACC now in basketball to get much better. They were awesome in their first couple of years when they joined the ACC, but they kind of fell off quick. They need more quality non-conference games that come with being in the ACC. If they can get into the early-season (and year-end holiday) tournaments, that could improve their standings come time for NCAA Selection Day. I REALLY wish they would drop the Independant status for their football program and join the ACC for that sport. It would up the game of every college in the ACC. ND has always been pretty good or great in football, but staying independant keeps them from facing most of the ACC teams. Therefore, the ACC doesn't know what they need to do to compete with ND. Familiarity raises the game of everyone involved. That's how FSU finally got unseated as the dominant team in the ACC for football. Eventually adding Miami and Pittsburgh helped some too, along with Louisville. Even Duke benefitted from adding those teams to the ACC for football.

What with all the "Villanova has come so close" talk? They won the whole thing two years ago! Has everyone forgotten already?!?!

Honestly, until I heard it mentioned somewhere today, YES I did forget Nova won it two years ago. That being said, I'm fine if they win. I hope Loyola wins it, but as long as its not kansas I'm happy.
