So, a 2002 Topps Terry Bradshaw 1977 reprint, PSA slabbed and graded 10 Mint (pop 2) is selling for $29.99.....a REPRINT mind you....and yet an ORIGINAL 1977 Topps Bradshaw listed just below it goes anywhere from $2.00 up to $18.99 for a PSA 8 slabbed card....why would ANYONE want to pay $30 for a REPRINT?!?!?!?!

Because there are still idiots out there and there is always someone hoping to take advantage of an idiot! That's the only answer I can come up with for your question.

The reprints are generally much harder to find than the originals, if they are anything like the NBA Rookie Reprints. Where the original cards come what, 8 to 10 per pack, the rookie reprints averaged 1 per BOX.
And that's not even taking into account the people who play the grading game, who, for some reason I have yet to determine, refuse to use their own eyes and pay somebody else to do it.
This isn't a shenanigan or stupidity. this is a rarer card selling for more than a more easily available card.

I've got to disagree, Billy. Sorry to go against you in opinion though! A 1977 card graded higher than 5 is much harder to find than a 2002 reprint graded at anything. I'm not saying the '77 is easier or harder to find than the 2002 reprint. I'm talking quality of the card only. I'm sure it's pretty easy to find a 1977 Bradshaw card, but not one that could be considered as a NM-MT (aka 8). Almost every 2002 reprint should already be a NM-MT 8 card because that's the current pack-pulled condition considered by the grading companies. A really modern card with a 10 grade is not much of a match for a vintage card with a grade of 8. If I was going after modern cards that are graded as a 10, it would be Chrome cards b/c that's been almost impossible for the past decade. Due to off-center and diamond-cuts b/c of the curving of those cards, it's nearly impossible to get a 10 for anything from Chrome cards. A 2002 Topps base insert card didn't have those issues, so it should grade high right out of the pack, no matter how hard it is to pull. A vintage card was sitting in a collection (or even a pack) for about 30 years before grading was even an option.

There's still more of them out there than there are of the insert. Whether they have been graded or not is irrelevant. It's comparing apples to oranges. (go, banana!) You could go months without finding the reprint for sale again- in any grade- but you will ALWAYS be able to find 70s Topps flagship cards no matter if they are rookies, stars or bench warmers. Trust me, I've been trying to complete the 1996-97 NBA Rookie Reprints since they were new. Then they did more reprints around 2000-01, and I've been chasing them since they were new, too.

It is a situation of someone hoping to find that one buyer who doesn't read the title or decription correctly and jumps to hit the BIN button.

I agree with Billy that it seems legit to me, assuming the seller is open in the description about what it is. It is a real card from a Topps set. And to clarify for everyone, the set in question is a Bradshaw reprint set. Topps reprinted all his cards and inserted them in packs in 2002. 1977 was about the middle of his career. Nobody is going to be tricked into thinking they're buying his RC, because his RC looks nothing like a 1977 card. I can totally see why a Steelers fan would want the card. I don't know what the insert odds were for this set, but only 6 people on our site own a copy.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I have 9 of the 14 cards of this set (I don't count the auto because that will never happen). I don't have the '77 reprint . I wouldn't pay $30 for one and I definately would never buy one that is slabbed. I would pay more for the '77 reprint than I would for the actuall '77 card though.
I don't think I paid more than $5 for any of the ones I have but it has been a long time since I have paid money for an individual football card.

Just for a comparison, there are 129 of the originals listed on this site versus 6 reprints. Seems the reprint is definitely the rarer of the two, I would much rather have the original, but neither of them would be worth $30 to me.
