"What comes around, goes around" I think Buddy Ryan said that. Anyway, recently I have noticed what we call "junk wax" of the '80s is back in demand. From requests and matches, I believe there are some younger collectors out there that "missed the boat" on these beautiful but overproduced cards. And trying to back-collect on these cards. I also think that some collectors are refinding the hobby, getting back in and trying to fill in on these missed years. Just my observation..... ~BOB~

I feel like I get more enjoyment getting 20 junk era cards to almost complete a set than I do getting 20 of 2017 cards I need. Can’t say for sure why that is and I probably watched less baseball at that time in my life too.

Have not seen any increase in demand for junk wax here.

My feeling is that sites like TCDB make it easier for collectors like me, who started during that era, to trade stuff that's been sitting for decades. I mean, if you've got dupes that you have no idea what to do with, might as well list them here and maybe trade 'em for stuff you don't have. Maybe even finish a set or two too.
This can only be good for collectors.

I've noticed it too Bob! I can't say that I'm trading away more 80's to early 90's cards than I am of the 2000-2017, but I'm trading away a LOT more of them than I used to trade. One of the trades I mailed today included slightly over half of the 1992 UD High Series set alone!

One appeal for me was to add a second set because I now have 2 sons to pass thing off to, and the cost of making a set is not wallet busting.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

I have noticed that too in the last few years. If you think about it, it makes sence. Kids collecting today were not yet born during that era, It has been 30some years since the beginning of that era. To many younger collectors the 1980s are part of the vintage years, the 1990s could almost be considered "vintage" now. Depending on your definition of what "vintage" is. If you say it is any card 20 years or older then buckle up because soon the last cards of the 20th century will be considered vintage.
Think about it all the kids collecting now days were born in the 21st centruy, after the year 2000. So cards made 20 years before that are ancient to them.

For me personally I was born in 90 so I didn't get to collect the cards from the 80s. I like being able to go back and fill in any cards I'm missing. I like the cardboard more than glossy.

Yes good points made, I'm glad I have the space to store the '80s stuff, and be able to help younger collectors and those that jumped back in the hobby again. I've been very lax at adding 2000 up years, so trading could be a boon for both of us. Happy trading, ~BOB~

I too prefer the old "raw" cardboard to the new pure bleached white card stock and photo paper cards.
