What do you do when scanning an encased card? Such as the Topps uncirculated cards. Collector's Edge Graded cards. Graded 1/1 cards. Or any other cards that are distributed straight from the manufacturer already graded. Do you crop it down just to show the card itself? Or do you crop it down to show the case and/or the grade, along with the card?

Scan it as issued. So if it was issued in a slab include the slab.

I say the same thing. BUT, there are others that claim the case/slab is packaging. We have gone back and forth about this type of thing for years. For the Topps or Bowman Uncirculated cards, I say it absolutely needs the case in the scans. The case and sticker is the only thing that differentiates them from the base cards. I have added some scans of Uncirculated cards from the early 2000's and I always included the cases.

Card only, the case/slab and other info is either added to release notes or Note 2. Admin would like it to be the core subject matter for images. My Ranford slabs I had to correct when I first put them on the DB.

That wasn't the case for me. I had a 2016 Panini Recollection Collection card, which was slabbed, and and a seal on it as well. I knew the database generally didn't want slabbed cards, so I contacted them and asked what to do. I was told, that's the way the card was issued, so I was to scan it slab and all.

There's no intrinsic value in cardboard, but there's a lot of value in doing something you enjoy!

Interesting, I guess the consensus has changed over the years. I may have to redo mine then. I have a few of the Ultimate Collection cards with all the set info right on the slab.

I suppose it only makes logical sense to present an item exactly how it was issued individually. So if a slab/seal is officially part of the item itself, then it probably should be in the scan.

As Spaz pointed out, there are several members who will then argue that cards are issued in packs, in boxes, in cases. "Should we just scan a case and be done with it? After all, that's how the card was issued."
I have a scanner that doesn't handle these well so I have no horse in the race. However, I side with the point that the card is focal point of the "collectible". Not the slab. You want to put a picture of the card in the slab in the packaging section, that would be ag reat place for it. (And you'll get a point for each image submitted, too!) If your scanner can scan the card well enough through the layers of plastic, great - crop out the plastic and submit the image of the card for in thechecklist. Image of the slab in packaging.

Like vroomed, I do not have a scanner that scans encased cards very well so I have to hold the lid down. When I do this, the case becomes kind of a blur so when I do edit the card I crop out the case because it looks odd.

Oh, that is why I specified "issued individually".
