I am new on the site, and I want to tell that it is a very good site. Collecting cards is not very popular in Holland, and so I need to look for advise and knowledge in the USA. This site helps a lot.

Now I have a question.

I can not figure out how the total price for my collection is calculated. There are a lot of cards without a price, are these counted as $0, or is there an average price for those cards?

Since English is not my language, Please do not look at the errors I make in writing.

Prices and values are difficult to determine. In the end, it is worth what someone else will pay for it at a given time. If you are looking for a current value, go to the Ebay website and see what a similar condition card has sold for, not what someone is asking for it. Hope this helps a little

I can't answer your question about the value, but I can tell you that the values of the cards on here are NOT always accurate.

Welcome to the site. A lot of GREAT people here who have a lot of knowledge - and are willing to share and help.

I see you collect basketball. You might do yourself a favor and find someone who is willing to send you a couple month old Basketball Beckett price guide. It may not be 100% up-to-date on the latest cards, but on the cards that are a year old and older, that stuff doesn't change too much and would help you be able to guage your collection better than this site (sorry admin!).

I know that pricing is hard and that it changes in time.

The actual prices of the cards are not very important to me, I do know how to get a price for a single card, internet is a blessing.

But when I look at "my collection" ther is the number of cards for every category and a price for the total collection per category. In the data base there are a lot of cards wiyhout pricing. the question is: are the cards without a price counted for $0 in the total, so when prices are added to the not-priced cards will the total value of the collection go up. Or is there an average value added to the total for those not-priced cards?

So I only want to know how this site calculates the total collection value.

vrooomed, I know the magazine "Basketball monthly", In Amsterdam and The Hage there is an American Bookstore. A few years ago they sold it there too, and they sold cards too. Since the collecting of cards is not very popular here they stopped selling these items. But prices are on internet as well.

You are correct that if a card shows $0 as the price, your collection value does not increase. There is no average calculated for cards with no price given.

Basically, if you own ten cards, and one shows on here as worth $1 and the other nine show no price, it will calculate your collection value as $1, not $10. I think this is what you were asking. You also have the ability to tell what you paid for cards yourself (if you bought them individually and not in packs) and that will be used to help determine what the site shows as the value of the card.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
