Hey ppls, just got back from a two day trip to the big bad city of Edmonton. Did some responsible shopping but the wife gave me 500 to spend on the hobby!! Woohoo!! Hit some shops for the first time in like a decade. Money is all gone!! =) got about 8 hobby boxes and some supplies, will be fun for a change, felt like a kid again. LOL Here is the reason for the post .... I was at one shop Friday afternoon (a real old school place, dirty dingy and the like). One guy behind the counter and a dozen guys just standing around. This fella comes in with his pre-teen son and start browsing the hobby boxes on the wall. They ask what is new and the guy starts talking about some hockey product called "The Vault" I think, anyways, it is $275 per box and like four or six cards per box!! He buys four on the spot!! YOWZA!! $1100 bucks on his card. I have not looked into this much but they are all 1 of 1's and graded and so on. Was stunned as this is EXACTLY what we had been talking about in the last cpl weeks. Here I am buying hobby boxes of Score and this dad drops 1100 beans on this for his kid. Was stunned, either crazy rich or in it for the business, not sure but that is certainly not what I think of when I think collecting hockey cards!!

I hate to see how much debt that guy is in.  He probably owes more on his credit card than I owe on my house!

Honestly, if I could afford it, I would do the same thing. Unfortunately, I have to pay for several medicines that keep me alive and that is (slightly) more important than cards. I average about $20 a week on the hobby these days. Sometimes I save up and spend more, but I'm sure all of us do the same.
