It was on this date in 1996 that I discovered the sport of basketball. My mom gave me a pack of 1995-96 Fleer Series II for Valentine's Day, and later that night I found the Knicks-Hornets game on TV.
To say it changed my life would be an understatement. I now consider that one of the 3 most important days of my life- along with when I discovered NASCAR, and when I came literally 5 minutes short of dieing in 2013...but didn't.
All these years later, I think I am more "into" the game now than I ever have been before- it's even surpassed NASCAR as my favorite sport.
It has gotten me through some rough times, that's for sure (I've detailed some of this on Cardboard History, where I just finished a countdown of my top 20 all-time favorite sets- 20 posts in 20 days, consecutively!) and there are some entire years where my only good memories are of my cards.
And all these years later my mom still buys me cards on a regular basis. She's actually pretty upset that she has been too sick to leave the house and get me any for this year. I have a stash of unopened and made sure I got some today anyway.
Thanks for reading.
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
