I like to buy the packs and open them. Depending on the card, I reach what I feel is a saturation point, where there gets to be too many doubles in a pack, then I start searching for the singles I need to finish it. I have bought sets, when due to unforseen circumstances, I didn't buy many packs, and cards became hard to find, or I found the cost of buying the set, cheaper than continuing to look for the singles.

I am trying to finish my fathers collection.  He was the collector and when he passed I took up his hobby full force.  I love the idea of seeing his collections get the final treatment they deserve.  Whenever I finish one I let my brother know and we celebrate in the irish tradition.  I'm sure some of you know what I mean.  Cheers.  Go Phils

Awesome. You just found a place where you have some of the nicest of the nice people in the hobby. And we have a lot of cards. A lot of extras. If you start entering your want list here - I'm pretty sure you'll see it shrink, and you may even get to celebrate some more with your brother! :)

The only sets I have any remote interest in completing every year are the Topps WWE sets.  Those are 110 cards, with no SPs, so they are pretty easy.  I usually buy enough packs to get close, then trade with my brother locally, or with members on here to get the job done.  Of course, factory sets aren't an option with Topps WWE, and buying a hand collated set would deprive me of opening a few packs and getting some inserts.  I like to get at least one card from every insert set I can.  That's why I like hanger packs in Topps baseball.  You get one card from several different inserts in those.  But I never buy enough of any large set to even get close to a complete set.  Too many different products out there for me to tie a bunch of money up in just one.

As a box-breaker, of course I had to spend some of my tax refund on boxes of cards! They should be in-hand Tuesday. I ordered 4 hobby boxes Thursday night (from Steel City): 1 NASCAR, 2 NFL, and 1 old MLB box. None of these are about completing a set. They are just the boxes I wanted to bust for the price I could get them. If any set builders are looking for these cards, LMK with a PM. Here is what I ordered by year:

This should be a fun multi-box/multi-sport break! I love the design of all four brands and that's why I bought them. I haven't bought any packs/boxes of any of these sets yet and that made them even more enticing. I'm tired of buying singles from them. Anything I pull that isn't PC will be up for trade or sell. I can't wait to see what I pull and how I can help other collectors.
