as I look at most sets, they have errors, so my understanding is there is no #277?

Yeah, I'm with Triple V, and switz.  Numbers confirm I have them, but I love putting the collection in order by teams.  The only thing that drives me crazy about that are those, "Now with Cubs" or "traded to Falcons 8/12/94".  I hate seeing a player in one uniform while the card says another team!!!  Oh well...everything can't be perfect I guess.

 Not a variation collector here, especially when they are generated intentionally by the card company, like SPs.

Right, set collecting is hindered by all the errors and variations and short prints. I just came to a definition of a complete set I'm comfortable with and go with it. This site seems to agree with my definition. Variations and errors don't count. 

Spazmatastic, I'm feeling one point you made. Paying $10 for some 1971 high number of a player I don't care about is painful. (current sets, I just buy complete) That pain is partially what inspired me to create my own "sets." All Lou Brocks, Last Card of Hall of Famers, my Merkle's Boner gallery. Makes it more fun.

Collect what you want.

Don't worry about what the other guy/girl has.

Enjoy what you have. Don't sweat what you don't have. But enjoy the chase of finding what you want.
