Seems everyone else has put a vent thread out there... it's MY TURN!
I'm a completionist collector. That's probably my number one problem right there. I don't want to stop till I have ALL of it. at the rate things were going I was starting to come to terms with the fact that I would likely never achieve this...now, I'm not so sure...
Found a card shop here in town that deals in common hockey. A LOT of common hockey. My goals are within reach, save the pocket book don't run dry before I get there...
Finished the 1993-94 donruss set from 16 to complete in two days. walked in, told him to pick a random set. You have no IDEA how good that feels!! not the complete a set, but that he can RANDOMLY select a set and I can COMPLETE IT!!! Exhilarating!!!
NOW I'm running into issues. Not the issues of tracking down 1 card to complete something, apparently my guy is looking into it for me. Nah, I don't call that an issue.
I thought I had 1991-92 Upper Deck COMPLETE complete. No holes, no nothing. No errors documented, no errors to find. just the base and inserts. ALL DONE!!! Flip through and see "Ailier droit" as Ken Quinney's position... and I just about threw the binder across the floor. I am now 36 cards short of a full set in ENGLISH and plus 36 to French and I'm not sure I'm done finding more!!! Likely they're all Centre instead of center. That's not all.
Tried to eliminate Score 1991-92 as well. Just Canadian Bilingual, as it was in my near completion list. HA!!! Between American cards that look like Canadian, English only cards instead of Bilingual, I AM SURPRISED THEY DIDN'T COME OUT WITH A FRENCH ONLY OR A SPANISH SET!!!!!! My OCD kicks in, And here I am pulling cards out of a set I thought I had cleaned up and 90% of what I bought to finish the darned set is going to Monolingual Canada!!!! There are more holes than when I started!!
Here's how it's my fault too!!! I let my guy pull the cards from a big box by number only!!! I didn't even think about it!!!!!
To me a set is not complete till it has all variations, errors, or all the bloody languages are the same!!! I'm Canadian, Yay me!!! I CAN'T READ FRENCH!!!!! (60% of French Canadians say the same thing about English. 90% are lying,) Still going to collect all of it because I am a completionist....
WHY do I need to be like this? honestly, I don't have much more storage space to put cards. Binders galore, pages easy. somewhere to put binders? Three 3 3 foot shelves are dedicated to cards as well as a 3 foot section in my overhead on my desk, (the other half is for my Xbox games... probably going to move,) there's another overhead to my left mounted to the wall with about 5 feet worth of binders of coins!!! 93-94 donruss takes up a 3 inch ring binder comfortably. The rest of space that I could use for cards is taken up by vinyl records.....
And done.
The difference between Hoarding and Collecting is Structure.
