This is trivial and stupid and anal retentive, and it’s unlikely that anyone can help. With that encouraging introduction, I pose this question.
I have my entire collection entered on this site. I also have my entire collection on an Excel spreadsheet. For years, the total amount of cards on TCDB and the spreadsheet matched. This pleased me. But for the last couple of months, the TCDB number is eight cards higher. The spreadsheet is correct. I know that. I have audited the amount of cards TCDB has me having for every set listed, and it matches the numbers in the spreadsheet. But the total of all those numbers is a notch higher on TCDB. I suspect it has something do to with my more recent use of the trading utility here and/or the in-transit feature, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why TCDB adds the set totals up differently than the spreadsheet.
Does anyone have a theory of where I might look to correct this? I am prepared to accept things I cannot change; but I need the wisdom to realize this is one of those things.
Thanks in advance for any help or sympathy. (I try to focus on these big issues….)

...can only sympathize. Using 3 different checklists (here, my blog, beckett hardcopy), when the numbers for a particular set don't match, I end up having to count through my checklists, and sometimes even the cards themselves. I hate it when the numbers get out of whack because then everything else seems to stop until I get those numbers matched. Good luck.

I can't help you either. What really bugs me about this site is multiplayer cards. For example, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon were teammates in NASCAR (before Jeff retired). Because of that fact, they appear together on many cards over the years. When I check out my Jimmie Johnson numbers, it includes duplicates that I have for my Gordon collection. AND my Jeff Gordon collection includes all cards with JJ on them that I only have in the JJ collection. On Beckett, I can just go to the folder I created for each driver to see what is there (or isn't there b/c Beckett doesn't list a lot of cards that are listed here, such as cards from diecasts and WizKids RaceDay CRG). The same issue applies to any team cards for any sport where there are multiple people on the card.
Stuff like this is why I use binders to store my cards. I can quickly see how many copies of each card I have or still need for different collections without having to touch the cards.

Spaz, I found the same issue about multi-player cards. When I entered my player collection, I began to add a comment to the cards to point out to me in which player's collection a particular card is.so if there were 4 players on a card where I collected all four of them, then I add their names (if I have that card in that player's collection) in the Comments datafield in doing a detailed add. This way, when I look at my collection of any one player, if there are 2-3-4 cards,I know that the extras can be found in another player's collection. Unfortunately, this does not help out the total card count inyour collection for a single player.

For my Oiler RC collection (oilerRCguy) what I do not like about multiplayer cards (sorry if this is off topic) is that your want and collection lists will include all the players on the multi player cards. It may be Score's idea of a triple player RC card for the Oilers but only one of the three players is actually a true RC. The other two names get added to thier card totals eventhough they are not RCs so suddenly my numbers are completely scewed. I asked Admin if there was any way to fix this issue and they politely told me no. =( So sometimes you still have to have an old school list. I have a 150 page binder full of names, cards and transactions to keep it all straight.

I swear I thought I was the only person creating and entering my cards in my spreadsheets AND the database here. I do this by set and I make sure every set reconciles from spreadsheet to database. I honestly can say, I have the same problem. Every single set I have reconciles perfectly, but when I sum up my spreadsheets, they do not match the total. I literally have wanted to jump out the window screaming trying to figure it out, because needless to say, this is a mathematical impossibility. I feel your pain!

Oh, I bet we're not the only two...
But it was perfect for years, now suddenly it's off. It's not including cards on my trade/sale list. I think somehow it's double counted a trade or something. I'm not a big believer in coincidences, and it started right after I started using the trading utility here. I'll figure this out. Please, don't jump.
Thanks for the support.

#1 - I just learned when you bring up your collection, not all your entered cards are entered in your COLLECTION...What I realized is that TRADE cards, WANTLIST cards can be pulled up separately. That was huge when it came to "the reorganization.", now I can see what are multis to trade as well as now being able to update my wantlists. I can then see my nontradeable/nonsellable PC.
#2 - I understand the spreadsheet need as well, if nothing else but for being able to just locate cards. In my case a SS for everything is impossible...but for my sets and Star Cards, really helpful. ex. let's say you want Puckett cards, although I may have so many, I can label boxes A, B , C and so on where his bulk cards are located.....and that's what I enter on the SS. Puckett / Boxes A,B,C. ----you want a Puckett RC or AS card, bingo ~ no search and I got it.
Back to the question of organization, WHAT A DIFFERENCE MAKER!!!

Hmmm...did you manually add the cards you traded for into your collection? The system automatically does it...IF all the steps are properly taken. I'm sure you know this already, but maybe somebody somewhere missed a step and the cards you mailed out did not remove or some that came in got added more than once. Just thinking aloud really.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
