Finally, a project I've been working on for some time is done -- (just about!). All of the 14,897 different Twins cards in my collection now have images in the database! (except one!) Thanks to all who have uploaded Twins cards over the years, as I didn't come close to doing this myself. It is a good feeling, but I have one small dilemma. The card I have left, pictured below, is sealed in a case with the Topps seal. (NOTE - EDIT - the card didn't show up when I created the thread. The card is:
Would you un-seal it and scan it, leave it as is and live with not having it scanned, or can it be cropped and added as a scan to be replaced later? I know I will ever sell it, but I kind of hate to break it open, yet without it scanned it is as if my project is incomplete. What would you do?

There has been lots of debate on this, I do believe it was decided that for the DB sake the card would be cropped to show only the card but you could add sperate scans of the same card in its case as part of your personal collection or possibly even a packaging image. I am sure you will get a more concrete answer from some of the old dust clumps on here =) ...... as I am only a fly "speck" compared to their knowledge. Hahaha

Scan, crop, post as needing replacement if the scan is not that good. Better to have a bad scan than no scan at all.

I continue to feel that cards sealed in cases BY THE CARD MANUFACTURER should be scanned with the case. Definitely don't remove the card from the case! Scanning the card in the case and cropping out the case is acceptable on the site. I just feel that cards like that should include the case in the scan to show that the set was encased by the company that made it.

I agree with spazmatastic, it came that way from the manufacturer, so it shold be okay to scan it that way. Be different if it was sent out to be graded and sealed away. Is this where we use the comments section on the cards page. That this is a sealed card from TOPPS

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

You could always buy another and have both versions. There's one on COMC right now for $14.75. I didn't check Ebay.
I usually remove my cards from those cases, because most of them I've gotten second or third hand and the cases are scractched up so badly you can barely see the card. Other's I've gotten with large price stickers right over the card. Plastic is bad for cards so I'm hoping none of the ones I've left in there have been damaged by it all these years later. I've gotten a couple cards in trade that were in screwdown holders and the card stuck to them, damaging it.
Also, congratulations! I know how great a feeling it is to finish off a major project. It really is a great relief!

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I say scan it as is, it is better to have a scan and upgrade than no scan available.

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Thanks for all of the great advice. And, Billy, thanks for the compliment. It is a huge relief. Now I just have to keep up on it and add my new additions immediately. I took the advice of the majority and scanned it in the case and cropped it. I'm not particularly happy with the way it looks, but, like some have sad, a bad scan is better than no scan. It looks a lot better in hand! I also tagged it as "scan needs replacing." Thanks again to all! You can see the scan here:
