Just got back from Sherwood Park, Alberta (basically Edmonton East lol .... a canadian joke) today after taking in The Summit Show. WOW WOW WOW, the size of teh show doubled this year from previous years. Two hockey arenas worth of sports memorabilia. Most evpensive card I saw today was a $7000 Connor McDavid. OMG Next was a $6000 McD and then a $2500 McD. How I wish I was a multi-millionaire. The scope of what is available in this day and age is CRAZY, no other way to put it. I did well today only $114 overbudget. I think the Oilers winning their first series in 11 years last night was a bad/good for the show. Bad for buyers like me and good for the sellers!! ROFL. Could the vendors get any luckier, a card show in Edmonton (splitting hairs on the city thing .... look on a map) the weekend they beat the SJS!!! I bought 11 Oiler RCs for $160 ..... DOH!! =D Got a 1987-88 OPC mini set for $10. Bought $45 of Pokemon for the littel guy. Daughter got a WJC McDavid for $5 and then bough three hobby boxes of various branding) If not for the Pokemon and Draisaitl RC I would have only been over by a couple bucks.
Sadly I only saw about a dozen Ranfords. One was a triple sig for $475, a The Cup Auto for a $100 and the rest were all cards I already have. Its really difficult to get Ranfords when you have so many, all of the stuff needed are parallels, SNs and the dreaded 1/1's ..... UGH. It was a blast tho and now the saving starts for another year.

I'm glad you had fun and picked up some PC stuff! I've never been a hockey fan (not something you grow up with in NC, USA and the Hurricanes have only been around since 1997). I do actually own a commemorative hockey puck for the 10th Anniversary of the Hurricanes from 2007. That's surely the most important thing in my collection of NHL stuff. If the 'Canes could ever get back to a winning record and the playoffs, I might would pay more attention to the sport. My personal opinion of hockey is the same as soccer, lots of action for very little scoring. However, I am a baseball fan and that is very little action for usually very little scoring. Baseball is much more fun to watch in-person and I'm sure that hockey is the same way too.
In NC, Racing, College Basketball and any level of Football are more closely watched than other sports. I heard the other day that NC is the 7th-leading producer in the US of NFL players (even beating Texas @ #9). It's no surprise that #1 is the state of Florida. College basketball is huge here once the ACC season starts in late-January and continues through March Madness! A big part of that is the number of D-1 schools here in NC that can make it to the NCAA Tournament in any year. There are a bunch of MiLB teams teams here too. Baseball brings in a lot of spectators, but the players are constantly changing every year. The only real hockey presence is the NHL Hurricanes and a few of the D-1 NCAA schools that actually have a hockey program.
Oops, I got off on a tangent there. I'm glad you had fun and acquired some PC cards. I hope you can stockpile some cash over the next year to jump on some of the big-money Ranford cards next year!

Must have been pretty awesome to go to a show like that in your semi home town. Glad you were able to get some items for your PC and help the lil man on his Pokemon stuff. It is crazy the hometown markup that happens especially during the playoffs.
Would have been nice to add some Ranford PC card but atleast you got some Oiler RC. Did you haggle the price or accept what they were selling at? Hope you haggled.
So the question is who do you need for your Oiler RC pc now. Are your lists updated?
Happy collecting.

I haggle by volume ....... just like all those episodes of American and/or Canadian Pickers have taught me, the art of the bundle. =) I was able to haggle the Draisaitl guy down quite a bit (bought it as a single) but the others I bundled instead. Yeah the $100 Ranford was a sweet card, and it is owned by the shop I use in the city so hinted the the daughter to see if it is still there come Father's Day. LOL
I will update the Oiler RC PC soon I am on 15/16 minor sets and only have 16/17 left. Once I get that done I will be updating both Ranford and Oiler RC lists. Then finally to my trade/sale items. YAY

Yeah it is Billy, it only lasted two seasons but it was quite good to see what we as a country have to offer. The show itself was a B+ compared to Mike and Frankie, I do love to watch episodes still even though they are re-runs, like re-reading a good book.

Billy,
It was that or Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. And unlike the other 2 choices, it only lasted 2 years as Ranfordfan stated.

Don't you guys have some sort of "Storage Wars" type of show up there in Canada? Much better show than American Pickers, IMO. I enjoyed Pickers for the 1st few seasons but it got old fast. They mostly found the same stuff over and over b/c that's exactly what they were looking for every time. Storage Wars is now in their 10th season and the stuff they find is usually very different and interesting, AND the cast has changed some over the decade to keep it a bit fresher than just the same 2 guys searching barns and garages for the same items in every episode.
I'm pretty sure that A&E and the History Channel are not part of the Discovery group of stations. I might be mistaken though. For those that don't know, Discovery Communications is a Canada-based broadcast company. Even though they do a TON of business and work in the US, they are a Canadian company. I don't have any problems with that b/c they do make really good TV shows AND they were a huge reason that the Discovery Channel Telescope was built at Lowell Observatory in Arizona, USA several years ago.
I really like "Ice Road Truckers", but that is also a History Channel program. It does take place in Canada now though, after the first few seasons were based in Alaska and then there was a season in India and a season in Peru or Chile. Discovery has mostly focused on shows about Alaska or cars for the past few years and the better programs have been on the Science Channel or other stations in the Discovery brand. Other than the "Naked and Afraid" programs, I don't really watch anything from the main Discovery Channel anymore.
Somehow, I went into a strange tangent based on Canada and Discovery Communications. I don't see how Discovery can ever match Mythbusters and Deadliest Catch with the way they have produced programs over the past several years, but I hope they can put out much better shows in the future than the current useless crap they are making now.
