Hi everyone! I have been on here for a little over a month and today I started the slow process of adding my cards to my collection on here. I have always wanted to have my cards in a database and I am happy this site allows that. I do not have a scanner unfortunately, so all the cards I have added that do not have pics... Well I cannot change that for now. Hopefully soon. Any advice on anything to do with the site? What is the fastest way to add cards here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I too have recently started adding more of my collection to the site. I'm hoping it will help me stay better organized.  As I go through, I have a method that I stick to (team, then alphabetize the players). This is so that when I return the cards to boxes after adding them, they will be in some sort of organizational order.  However, this is a very slow process.  If I had to start over and didn't have a particular method, I would definitely add them on here by set.  It would be so much easier to go through a set checklist and mark the cards that I do and don't have, rather than searching each individual player, marking a card or two, and then searching another one.  

Of course, it is always to each their own.  As long as you can find a method that works for you, you'll be just fine.  

That probably wasn't a whole lot of help, but I'm still kind of new at this part too, so forgive me! Some of the longer-tenured members could probably give better pointers and ideas.

If you have a lot from a set, I would suggest going to the Collection Summary page and doing them all at once, instead of going to each card and clicking it. It's a lot faster. The collection summary page is also available for people and teams so however you have your cards sorted there's an easy way to do it.

One thing I didn't understand at first is that if you click to add a card to your tradelist, and then trade it, it removes it from your collection. I only trade duplicates and didn't realize I had to add multiple copies and add them to the trade list.

I got my entire collection listed in about 5 weeks back in 2012. Was a little over 100,000 cards at the time I think. I don't remember for sure.

Thank you both for the replies! I cannot add my collection by sets: I will have to add each one seperately. I have them sorted into binders/books by player and position. But I am starting to get a hang of it!

Welcome to the site.  I keep a master excel workbook for my collection that I used as a guide when adding my cards to the database.  Since I collect sets it didn’t take too long to add until I got to my partial sets.

One suggestion that might help when you have multiple cards for an individual player is to use the Browse by sports type, click All Names and locate the player you want to add by last name.  From there you can see all their cards listed or go year by year.  The list is alphabetical by set name so it makes it a little easier.  Once you click on the card you can add it to your collection at the bottom of the page.  Then you can use the back button to get back to the player name and continue.  I hope that helps some.

All I can add is be patient and enter them; it is well worth the effort.  Organization at your end will be the key to know what has been entered and what hasn't; what is for trade andwhat is in your personal collection.  If you are already well organized, then time is all you need.

Just one last bit of advice, if you have ten cards of the same card to trade, you realy need to only add one card for trade.  If you do trade it, just add another of that card for trade when you do the trade (I add a second card when I am pulling the cards involved in the trade as that is when I see that I do have a second card). What this does is make matching lists a bit less cluttered on both ends.

I too have only been a part of this group for about a month and so far while I love what the group offers, the card entry is excruciatingly slow. However, I really don't believe that there is a way to make it any easier or faster other than having somebody else do it for you! 

I get most of my cards from buying other people's old collections or bulk lots off of eBay. The easiest, but maybe not quickest way for me has been to sort my cards into sport type, then brands, then years and sets. While it does mean handling the cards 2-3 times from the box they came in to the card box or sleeves they will be stored in, it seems to be the best way of organizing and entering them into the database that I have found so far. My biggest problem is that I have bought too much (if there is such a thing!) and fell way behind on the whole process as shown in my profile pic. Oh well, hopefully I'll have time to get it done before I die! 2300 down and only 100,000 to go!
