Good evening all - 

Not that the 1990 Donruss set needs any more errors/variations but I may have found another.  The front is the same but the back is obviously different.  One has the top and bottom black notch as well as a slightly larger font than the other.  Excuse my poor cell phone photo.

Where's BOB from BOBSCARDZ when you need him? (Still resting from some medical issues.) He's doing well, and we're happy about that. Hopefully, he's well enough to see this soon. He's an avid collector of variations of this variety and he may know more about this particular one.

Can you also post the fronts, displayed in the same order? Thanks!

Hi ALL,

I'm back, slowly gaining strength each day. The surgery went well, a benign tumor and a part of my kidney was removed. Recovery has taken a bit longer than expected, complicated by pnemonia before discharge.

I hope to resume trading, at least, part time in a week or 2.

Back to the GIAMATTI question.. I can tell you that there was a definite pattern difference between Factory sets and wax. I haven't looked at my '90 Donruss binder recently to compare errs/vars. Maybe in a few but that would be my start point.

BTW: I will Get back to updating Miss T's summer highlights, she did lead her team to the NJ 18u STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS ! We are now working on recruiting work.

Glad to hear you are doing well.  Definate pattern differences but the back of the card is where it gets interesting.

As I suspected - the speckle pattern on the edge is different, It seems that the factory set differed from the cards available in packs. And there were a lot of packs available that year. A lot! I think I put together my set from packs, so I may not even have a factory set version to compare. But, I would be willing to wager pretty large sums of Pete Rose cards (ha!) that the diference here is factory set (no black lines to the border on back) versus packed out (the one with lines, that are all over COMC).

I also noticed on the front with his name. The one on the left the black lines go through his name the one on the right his name is above/over the black lines.

Also, many of the errors and variations were due to multiple printing facilities. From baseballcardpedia: "Many of these errors were due to the fact that Donruss outsourced production to multiple printing facilities, some of which had never produced baseball cards before."
