I have a few of examples of cards 25+ years old from more obscure sets that are in not-so-good condition, but don't have an image in the database. They don't have writing on them, but they just don't look that good. Would it be better to not scan them, or to have an image on here until somebody gets a better one to scan, since even a damaged one could still be a useful reference tool to another collector? Do we have condition standards for images?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I've run into the same problem. The way I look at it, if its an old set, not-so-good is better than nothing, especially since they can be replaced later.

The problem with uploading a not so good card is that it can only be replaced by the original uploader.

Not in all cases. When you turn editing on, sometimes there is a link that says "submit a different front (or back) scan".

Since we can already edit names/teams etc that someone else enters, I wonder if it would be possible for the admin to make it that we can replace scans

I guess it depends on your level of permissions. Once I turn editing on I can replace every scan if I so wished...
As for bad condition cards... I've scanned some, and some I just can't justify. Writing on the cards even for older cards. My rule of thumb is if you're not scared to take it out of it's page/protection to scan it, scan it! If you're afraid the thing will disintegrate... no.
The writing thing, well, some old cards are rare and you just so happen to have one that some 40's child wrote their name on it! I'll scan that. Ballfan wrote: The problem with uploading a not so good card is that it can only be replaced by the original uploader.

I'm not talking about stuff with writing. Those are specified as cards they don't want scanned. I have one in mind that's a 1985 wrestling card with an ink blotch in the picture, and a 1971 OPC baseball (black border set) with some white on the the edges. Maybe a good standard would be to see if I'm the only person with the card listed in my collection. If I am, I might go ahead and submit it. And maybe if I don't accept the scan myself, the admin can decide if it is good enough and he can accept it or deny it.

If the card is in
relatively good
shape, with just
some minor flaws,
go ahead and post
it. A better scan
can be added in
later. I won't scan
stuff with writing
over anything- if
it's in the fields
I digitally remove
the writing. I also
won't scan cards
with pieces
missing, (only have
one or two of
those) or major
flaws, like parts
of the card being
obscured by an
error or mis-cut so
part of the card is
missing. (I do have
them in my error
card collection,
though)

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
