I discovered my local shop at the beginning of this month, and I've already been there about 6-7 times. I've already gotten to know the guy that runs it, and he has great selection. I stopped by today, and the minute I walked in he told me "Hey, I just got a lot of hockey wax boxes, and a lot more are on the way this weekend!" He remembers what I like only after a few visits! If you are a fan of Detroit sports, along with Michigan-Michigan State, then the value is incredible. Stacks on stacks of Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons, Lions, Wolverines (ew), and Spartans. He's even got a box of various athletes from the Lansing area.
Honestly, the guy who runs the shop might seem a little mean and surly during your first visit, but he really opens up to you after a few visits. We talk cards, work, whatever. He's a really great guy. The shop also sells CCGs like Magic and Pokemon, but I think he's a little more of a sports guy, so he enjoys seeing guys like me there.
The biggest thing he's done for me is probably one of the coolest things any card shop owner has ever done for me. Today, when he mentioned that he was getting a lot more wax boxes, I told him to look for the Series 2 boxes of 92-93 Upper Deck boxes, since I was looking for the Gordie Howe Hockey Heroes insert cards. Immediately after that, he takes me to the other counter, opens up a box of various UD Heroes cards, and starts looking through them. We end up finding the 8 cards I was looking for to complete my set, and he only charged me 25 cents a card, which is cool because I'm pretty sure that's below their actual value (especially since the shop is in Michigan). So now I have completed the insert set I've been wanting to complete since I started collecting hockey cards, all thanks to him. I'm still going to buy a Series 2 box from him if he gets any. I'd like to get 2 complete insert sets: one I got at the shop, and another that I pulled (mostly) from packs. I'll frame one with my signed Gordie Howe jersey, and keep the other in my Red Wings collection. But anyway, I digress.
In conclusion, there's a great card (and collectibles) shop in Lansing, MI called All Star Cards on Saginaw Highway. If you're ever in the Lansing area, give it a visit.
