It looks like the whole state needs to leave (except maybe those in the panhandle). I heard that Atlanta Motor Speedway is going to open their campgrounds for evacuees to use for free. I don't see how much help that would be since ATL is also in the path of the storm.
I'm probably not going anywhere, but that depends on the path. I'll continue monitoring it to see how close the center will get to central NC. It's currently looking backwards for this state. The people in the mountains might need to evacuate eastward, when it's usually the beachgoers heading west. It should only be a tropical storm by the time it gets here, but massive rainfall in the mountains will be a major problem. Flooding will be a sure thing in some places and landslides could be a big issue. Irma could be as bad for western NC as Hurricane Hugo was in 1989.
I know it's going to be bad in Florida. What sucks is that Floridians want the track to move east to lessen the damage to their state, but Carolinians want it to stay on land as long as possible before reaching us to lessen the effects here. If it gets back out over the ocean near the Gulf Stream, it will intensify again after hitting FL. Then it will power into the Carolinas stronger than if it arrives over land. I just hope everyone in the southeast US is getting prepared and/or getting out of the way of this monstrous storm!

Its not great for most of us, best thing for me is the eye moves further to west coast. Im on a barrier island near cape canaveral and it dont look good for us at all. Spent all day boarding up and doing the general things, had a new design roof 4 years ago thats upto date hurrican standard but im still worried about the house and people around me.

I feel for you guys I do, thats some crazy stuff right now, i heard on the news that South Carolina should be prepared but nothing about NC. Don't know me US that well but I would say keep an eye out regardless where you live along the east coast. Makes my winter blizzards very meaningless.

While the area around the eye is the most powerful part of the storm (wind-wise), the most damaging part is the northeastern quadrant. That's where the majority of tornadoes happen and the highest concentration of lightning occurs there. That is NOT the area you want to be near. I would not want to be anywhere near southern FL or along the eastern beaches when Irma arrives.
There is an odd coincidence with this storm for us in NC. Last week, we were dealing with a system that was supposed to become Irma. It didn't get tight enough circulation to actually become a named storm though. So now the actual Irma is looking to strike the other side of the state. That's just ODD!
PLZ stay safe Gary! Look out for your neighbors too.
EDIT: This is my 1,000th post in the forums!

Congrats on the 1G, 1K or whatever they call it LOL. I think that is the TDS(??) #13(??) (was some bizzare scientific name) that was suppose to flirt along the maritimes sometime last week I think, not sure that it ever did. I found this picture online just a few minutes ago, it is an image never seen before, three huricanes in a row that are all possible to make North America landfall. UGH

The Governor of NC declared a "State of Emergency" Thursday that starts Friday morning at 8am. The storm isn't supposed to get here until around Monday though. This "SoE" is immediately after the one that was declared a week ago when it was known that the fuel pipeline from Texas to North Carolina was closed b/c of Hurricane Harvey. It's back open now, but our gas prices jumped by about 60 cents/gallon in a few days b/c of the pipeline shutdown. One of the largest fuel storage facilities on the East Coast is about 15 miles from my house and near the midpoint of the pipeline. There is plenty of fuel stored there, but that fuel is usually trucked northward and not used to fuel gas stations in this area.
What could be a big problem for NC is that most of our best emengency and rescue teams are currently in Texas or Puerto Rico. At least we have lots of military bases here that can help cover for the teams in other areas. I imagine the Reserves and National Guard are prepping now to help deal with what could happen anywhere in the state. The Red Cross, Salvation Army and church groups have a big presence here too. Many of those groups are back in-state now after Harvey.
I've only dealt with 2 blizzards that I can recall here in NC. We have more of an Ice Storm problem when it comes to winter weather. Blizzards tend to make the roads impassable for a couple of days and bring down trees here and there. Ice storms take down everything they land on when it gets thick enough and lead to widespread power outages and completely unsafe roads for a week or more. I think I'd much rather deal with moving water on the ground than frozen water. Of course, a blizzard this far south is usually only 10 to 20 inches of snow and that is usually a dry period for us anyway, so there aren't wet grounds that allow the wind to blow trees down easily. The varied levels of terrain here also slow the winds down to make them less of a problem. The ice storms take a lot longer to get back to normal b/c the ice covers everything and takes down trees, power poles, roofs and more.
Either way, I'm usually prepared enough for winter or summer storms. Whether they are coming from the Great White North or coming from the ocean, we know how to deal with it in NC. Sometimes our winter storms actually come from the ocean instead of comng from the north or northwest. Meteorologists really have their work cut out for them when they work here! Especially if they weren't raised in the area!!!
