Be on the lookout for cheap UD and other non-Topps boxes at Walmart. I got a 2009 UD box for $3.48 today.

The question is:
Was it even worth that?

Sounds like a good deal to me. I bought a blaster and a couple value packs of 2016 Series 2 Topps the other day for half off. I also found a pack of 2012 Topps WWE Heritage cards. I hope they have more stuff in the clearance next time I go back, Besides Opening Day, I have stayed away from buying any 2017 packs so far.

I took the tip and checked out my Wal Mart today when buying dinner stuff. Didn't see any, but will be keeping an eye out. I detailed it in my blogpost today, but I picked up a hanger pack of Series 1 from this year and found probaby 50% dupes, or close to it. They didn't have anything by way of sale, but I'm thinking I may swing by WalGreens and see if they have any $4 repacks available this week.
Dan, you bring up a fair question (even if you were joking). I think for me it would be worth the $4, as my Reds collection is so far behind and I'm always looking for trade fodder. I find it amazing how many team collectors are missing such basic flagship cards!
Note: that's not a slam to any team collector. It's no one's fault but the companies producing them. There are too many products to keep up with. I'm just simply stating that everyone has needs and sometimes the needs are very common.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Jason,
Spot on. I am a Phillies collector, and although I have all the Topps cards (minus 4) from 1955 to present, I am missing a fair amount of other brands from about 1994-present. At thte same time, I have added a ton of team sets from a few ebay dealers that specialize in that for $1 here, $1 there, maybe $2 or so.
And yes, I did mean it about if the $4 was worth it because if you only pull $3 worth* of cards, it wasn't worth the $4.
* - "Worth" being a term that is relative to the buyer. Maybe that insert card sells for $2, but books at $8 - maybe the buyer callls that a break even deal.

I took a look at Wal-Mart this evening. There were several 2016 packs on sale and I wanted to pick some up but I spent $20 for 9 binders of early '90s multi-sport mix. I only needed about 10 of the cards for my collection and I bought the rest for trade material. I was going to do the same for any cheap packs at Wal-Mart. Now that I'm a fairly active trader my interests in all cards has increased. I would normally have passed on the binders and I never buy new "wax". But who knows, I might get something that I can trade for something I need.

Misinterpreting the word "worth" can be the downfall of many a collector. Whenever someone starts asking questions about value, I always throw in the fact that a card is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. We all define value and worth of cards differently, and that's something that I think a lot of collectors forget sometimes when making deals.
For me personally, I rarely look at the monetary value of cards, simply because I add so many flagship cards and 90s commons to my collection. If you want four or five cards in return for only sending me one or two that I need, I'll still likely accept, especially if I can see that I don't have anything else on your FS/T list on the site.
I started rambling a bit there, and I know there are many users on this site who understand the value concept. Sometimes I have to remind myself that words are toneless via the internet; I'm not talking poor about anyone who collects based on value or sells cards at all; just stating that sometimes selling for book value might lead to disappointment if not selling to the right audience.
P.S. - in case it wasn't clear, I agree with your sentiments Dan! Just felt like throwing in a couple more thoughts of my own.

So let me get this straight. Is Wal Mart selling old 90's wax packs/cards or just older retail blaster boxes from the late 2000's?
