My collection is sorted into 2 different categories. ASU and non-ASU cards. I collect any card of ASU players so team does not matter. Example: Byron Scott played for 3 NBA teams (Lakers, Pacers, and Grizzlies) and coached for 4 NBA teams (Nets, Hornets, Cavs, Lakers). I'll collect any of his cards from those 6 NBA teams.
The same cannot be said for my non-ASU card collection (listed under a different name on the database). I collect several different teams and players. If a card of a player I collect (player collection or team collection) is of a team that is not of the team I like, I won't collect it.

I don`t think it comes as a surprise when I say every Ranford card EVER. Oiler player RCs are pretty obvious as well. =)

I'm picky about continuing to collect a player if he's left my team, regardless of it being a trade or via free agency. I'll sometimes go after RCs of players I collect who started on other teams, but then affordability plays a key role. Nolan Ryan, for example. I cannot afford his early years with the Mets, so I collect his Astros cards. I've recently begun adding his post-Astros years onto my Trade List.
I do collect players who have never played for my teams, and I sometimes go after their cards even if they're with teams they're not usually associated with such as Joe Montana (Chiefs), Jerry Rice (Raiders), and Marcus Allen (Chiefs), and in baseball I've got a big collection of Rickey Henderson and Barry Bonds. Now one player I'd never collect other than his original team is Willie Mays (not that I can afford any of his pre-1972 cards. But I'll never own his cards with the Mets. It just ain't happening.
The Houston Colt 45s have spurred another individual collection as I'll seek cards from previous teams of players who formed that inaugural team in 1962. I've started doing that with Dallas Cowboys players and have a few like Eddie LeBaron and Dick Bielski, but I'm not as excited about them as I am pre-Colt 45s players.

I don't usually collect players after they have left my team. The one exception I can think of is Mark Grace. I look for D-Backs cards of Gracie because I'm still happy he finally got a championship after he worked so hard for the Cubbies. I also have a collection of BYU players, and it doesn't matter what uniform those cards are in, because my association with them didn't begin at the pro level. Other than that, when a player moves on, so do I. There are still other players from my team to collect.

Yes, in most cases. In fact, i was just thinking yesterday that I want a Matt Adams card for the Braves. I need a Holliday card for the Yankees, and Jaime Garcia for his three 2017 teams (He's been traded 3 times this year). And I have tons of Vince Coleman, Willie McGee, and Albert Pujols on other teams. I don't think that carries over to basketball. I still want every PG13 Pacers card I can get, but have no interest in his OKC stuff, when those start appearing. Thankfully Reggie Miller never left. And sometimes they come back my teams, like McGee, John Tudor, and Lance Stephenson!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
