Hey guys, it's summer, I don't want to do work, so let's share our luckest pack/box story! Here's mine:
So recently, I have been buying boxes of early 90s cards to complete sets, since they would be far cheaper than buying the individual cards online. As an added bonus, I get some chances at some neat-o insert cards and duplicates of cards I really like (like the one of Denis Savard and the horses).
So, yesterday I got a box of 92-93 Upper Deck Hockey High Series (The one with Gordie Howe on the box). It was the luckiest box break I have ever had, probably. The inserts in that set were: 10 Gordie Howe Hockey Heroes inserts @ 1:10, 20 Calder Candidates (Rookes!) inserts @ 1:9, Ameri-Can Rookie Team inserts @ 1:25, and 1 special insert @ 1:81. There were 36 packs in the box. So, an "average" box should have: 3ish Gordie Howes, 4 Calders, and 1 Ameri-Can. That gives you about 8-9 inserts in a box.
I ended up with 13. I got 7 out of the 10 Gordie Howe inserts (2 boxes' worth!), no dupes. One of the Gordie Howes was the short-printed "Cover Card," so that's even luckier. I got 6 Calder Candidates, one of those being a duplicate. BUT that duplicate was because one pack had two of the same inserts stuck together; that pack had 16 cards in it, instead of the normal 15. It felt exactly like when you accidentally get two bags of chips from the snack machine. I didn't get an Ameri-Can Team card, but when I got two boxes' worth of my absolute favorite insert set, I really can't complain and still will say that this box break was the luckiest I have ever been with trading cards.
