Anthrax were the first Rap/Metal band to really get it out there to people and deserve the recognition before a follower like Korn or Kid Rock.

IMO, the R&R HOF is a complete joke. I know Nina Simone was an incredibly talented singer, but she is not Rock, Roll, or Rock N Roll. And she's just one of the latest examples of non-R&R inductees.*

* - I could provide a huge list of artists that are not R&R, but that would mean having to look them up. There are also many deserving Rock artists that are excluded but again, I'd have to research, and I don't want to give the R&R HOF the web hit. :)

hmmmm?  They're not "Rock".  They're not "Roll".  Maybe they qualify under the "&".   

As jupiterhill said, I've always thought they should just change the name to Music Hall of Fame, since that's all it is now.

The Cars, most undeserving.  I went to a Cars concert once.  The MOST BORING concert I've ever experienced.  They all stood in line across of the front of the stage, behind their microphones.  The drummer and a wall of video monitors behind them.  The WHOLE concert, that's all they did. Stood there playing and singing.

Everyone should check out Sister Rosetta Tharpe, one of my favorites. Some argue she was the first Rock n Roller, years before Ike Turner's "Rocket 88" in 1951.

Anthrax!!!!! Though I will say they weren't a Rap/Metal band, they only did a few songs in that genre to prove a point (rap and rock/metal can co-exist). What they did with Public Enemy cannot be overstated considering the environment back then. If NIN goes in so does Ministry and throw Godflesh in there too.

As the originator of this thread maybe I should comment on the Molina/Posey/Mauer line. Considering past, current and normal future production/decline. Posey yes, Mauer no (that concussion ruined his career like Mattingly's back). Molina will be a yes but it'll take time. His leadership and defense will get him in. AT the end it matters not if it's 1st ballot or not; in is in. 

The band is still together in Prophets of Rage, minus Zach of course.

I agree that a more appropriate name would be the Music Hall of Fame, even with the initial inductees missing the general R&R connotation. I've never been to it, nor to any of the sports ones, but hope to one day. 

As far as who's in, I'm happy that Dylan, The Beatles, Stones, CSNY, Zeppelin, U2, and yes, even Neil Diamond are in. I was known as a "rocker" all my life, but in college my friends couldn't understand my love for Diamond. (I listened to Tap Root Manuscript and Stones my two favorite Diamond albums the other day back-to-back.)

Can't comment on many post-90s bands, but my kids whose ages are between 24-31 are always having me listen to music they listen to (and in one case create). I'm sure RATM has been one I've been exposed to, but frankly don't recall anything in particular.

I will comment on a band that I believe needs to be in as a "rock" entry; The Call. An '80s band with highly spirited social commentary on humanity's struggles to relate individually and as a whole. If you have a chance check them out. As far as hits, they had a few: "The Walls Came Down", "I Still Believe", and "Let the Day Begin".

If you call it the “Music Hall of Fame,” you’d need to include country, and blues, and a whole lotta other stuff. This is the rock and roll hall of fame, including roots. 

They already include Country & Western, Blues, Rap, Hip Hop, Funk, Reggae, Ska, Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Jazz, Bluegrass, and Folk. About the only genre missing is Classical.

They've got blues artists already. Didn't see country.

What would you consider Johnny Cash, Chet Atkins, Bob Willis & his Texas Playboys, and Hank Williams?

By the way, Cash recorded with U2 and some metal band before passing. Talk about crossover.
