Hey all,

I have recently started collecting 1969 Topps set.  I had a buddy, Indybean17, steer me to sportslots.com.  I have been buying pretty continously from a guy on there, but have some concern.  I, nor my buddy, haveor an eye to determine if these cards are legit.  They are pretty crisp which gives me concern, but they are commons, which would lead me to believe why would you counterfiet a common?  

Really just looking for thoughts and tips on spoting fakes and or luck with sportlots buyers.

Sportlots is a legit site to buy from, although I've never personally used them.  I highly doubt the cards are counterfeit, as most counterfeits are typically reserved for the most sought after cards.  Reprints are more likely, but even then, most of the reprints are reprints of those same high dollar cards like the Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan, and Mickey Mantle for instance.  You should be fine on that site.  For the higher dollar cards, I would only purchase those in person at a trusted card shop dealer.  One who takes the guesswork out of altered or counterfeit cards, where you can buy with confidence.

I really wouldn't worry about counterfeits from the '69T set, or about commons in general from any of the post-WWII cards.  As you stack your inventory of commons and get used to handling them, you will gain a basis for how authentic vintage cards are supposed to look and feel.  I just really don't hear about counterfeits from '69T.  If there were any, I suppose they'd be the M.Mantle, N.Ryan, and R.Jackson cards, but I seriously doubt you have to worry much about that.

I'm a big supporter of Sportlots for vintage commons.
