So, many of you know that I got into tobacco cards a couple of years ago, and am particularly fond of the T205 Gold Border cards, in part because they are beautiful. But I collected those to finish my Merkle's Boner gallery, so every T205 I have is from the National League. For those who don't know, the American League T205 cards are quite different -- even more beautiful, in my opinion -- than the National League cards. So I want one. But without hunting for Cubs, I'm not really sure who to go for. Not a star or Hall of Famer; I don't want to spend that kind of cash. Just an ordinary player, but one with some quirky history. I, of course, will browse on my own, but I was wondering if people had any great tidbits of 1911-ish players in the American League who I might want to add to my collection in 2018.
Thoughts?
(Ooooh, it's ALMOST 2018 Collecting Goals time....)

Homerun Baker gets my vote. Wasn't that era considered the dead ball era? The name sticks out and it's the Philadelphia Athletics!

How about Lena Blackburne?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I love cards with team names that had a short life. I'd consider one of the Cleveland Naps cards. They only used that name from 1903-1914 before permanently changing to the Indians.
Or Jake Stahl, the eponym of the term "jaking it", a baseball phrase for faking an injury to stay out of the lineup, or otherwise loafing.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Blackburne is relevant to the game, BTW. I didn't just pull out a name.

See, I just don’t give you people enough credit. I was confident that this thread would quickly die on the vine. But no! You’re all over it.
Nice suggestions. I went through the gallery and picked out the ones that caught my eye. Lena Blackburne happened to be one. I’ll research....Oooh, the guy who essentially invented rubbing baseballs with mud?!?! That’s a good call. Thank you.
I’m also liking the Athletics. The elephant in the corner is really nice and some have fantastic coloring.

Ooops! Sorry I suggested Jake Stahl. You don't need another Red Sox.

That’s ok. I like the Naps idea, too. I think it’s time to save some new eBay searches....

My one T205 card is Germany Schaefer. The only thing I could find that he is known for is being ejected from a game then putting on another players jersey and a fake mustache. Then he tried to continue in the same game, but the Umpire saw through it and ejected him a second time.
I would like to get a T205 of Ed Delahanty, but they are a little out of my price range.
