It is done. Shoutout to switzr1, who suggested Lena Blackburne. For awhile I got obsessed with Chief Bender, which has fantastic colors and the elephant logo. I might still need one someday, but it was just too steep for me. And the Blackburne is quite attractive and has the white leg logo. And most importantly, he’s the guy credited with discovering the idea of rubbing mud onto baseballs. That’s just perfect. Can’t wait.
As someone said in switzr1’s thread about his 19th century purchase, these truly vintage cards really are the dark side. I’m gonna go broke....
....happily.

Bravo, V3. Enjoy it. Maybe starting daughter and backup daughter will throw in for the Bender someday!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Backup daughter was closely consulted throughout this hunt. And she loved the Bender. And I dropped some serious hints. So maybe...,

I do own a T207 of John J. McGraw brown background. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Obxyankeedan,
Thanks. I saw that listing. I just couldn’t get a cut up t202. And the Bender is missing the logo. I’ve got one t202, which I love. Don’t know if I’ll ever get another. If I do, I’ll go back to my Cubbies.

Update:
Well, I tried for a Bender, but again, even a 1.5 got too steep, but I couldn't stop at just one of these. Too beautiful. My backup daughter and I fell in love with this card: http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/1/cid/55453/1911-T205-Gold-Border-NNO-Danny-Murphy
My copy is a little more orange than yellow, which makes it a bit more vibrant. There's no really interesting trivia attached to Mr. Murphy. He's not a star, though he was good. We just love the colors, the logo, the design, and his rosy cheeks. Ok, I'll stop now. Stop telling y'all this stuff and stop going for expensive ultra-vintage cards for a bit. Gotta bulk up the collection before I fall out of the top 200....

You know how I feel about the reprint sets. I'd grab one of those to help you get to know the set better, while guiding you towards your next original card purchase. The set could probably be obtained for the price of 1-2 low-grade originals.

And you should know how I feel about reprint sets. Not interested. No history. No feeling of awe at holding a 100 year old thing in your hand. If I wanted that, I could go to my color printer for a few minutes and have the whole set virtually for free. Pass.
This website is for "getting familiar with" sets.
