Update 1/7/18:
Made it home to Missouri today. Took stock of everything and unloaded the car before I even looked at my cards. Crazy to think this, but everything appears unscathed. Even the open box of cards I had appears to be okay at this time. Binders definitely okay, although I'll be pulling my cards out shortly to be sure (I need to buy about 1000 new pages [literally] anyway). The binders were all upright and that seemed to save them (as the water only got about two inches up). Lesson learned when it comes to cards: BINDERS DON'T BELONG ON THE GROUND. I will find a different place to store them until someday I get my man cave with shelves for them. Even the box I had sitting on the ground seems okay at this time (although I am anticipating that possibly changing as I check more).
Regardless, the most important thing is that nothing of value at all was lost, but thankfully my cards seem to be okay too. I do want to thank those of you who reached out and offered to help rebuild my collection if the need were to arise. I consider the TCDB clan my "second family" and appreciate all of you.
I'll be around a lot more in the next few days (once we get carpet installed and Wi-Fi hooked back up). Thanks again.
Jason

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

SO glad to hear you won't need to find replacements, I must admit I stopped and took the time to clean up the cave somewhat after your posts, had gotten lazy. I have had a flood in the past as well so I know full well what protective coverings are worth. Frost-free tap on the house ruptured in the cold (go figure lol) and spilled all over my comic collection, but because of them all being bagged I only lost two out of 1000's.

I'm glad I could be some sort of inspiration or word of warning, whatever you want to call it! Definitely did myself some favors with the pages protecting the cards, but also have to give some credit to the neighbor who noticed the water leaking out and called the landlord!
Billy - thanks for the kind words. Luckily it seems the NASCAR cards survived perfectly but I need to go back through and finish a full inventory to double check. I originally planned to get a blog post up about them this week, but with carpet coming in I'll likely be delayed. Regardless, I've got a couple cards headed your way soon (but I have to scan one in first - sorry, I need the points!)

That is GREAT news Jason! I am so glad you didn't lose anything important to you. I guess that is why I was hounding you for info. I thought I could ease your stress if I had more info. It appears that I was right. I have dealt with water problems several times in the past. After my first big one in the early-90's, I have managed to be lucky in not losing large chunks of my cards to water damage.
To go with your "BINDERS DON'T BELONG ON THE GROUND" remark, neither do cardboard boxes full of cards! BUT, if you want to get binders and boxes off the ground, you need METAL shelves. Not b/c of the potential for water, but b/c of the weight of the binders/boxes. They easily (and quickly) warp wooden shelves of any type. Personally, I like the metal shelving systems for albums/notebooks used in the medical industry. Not only are they strong and can hold the weight, but they also have locking wheels up to 4" in diameter.

Great news Jason. i think the whole lot of us will breathe a sigh of relief as each of us reads this report.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

YAY Jason! Great news. Hope the box winds up being okay too.
Having had lost a bunch to a floo, and having water issues everywhere I've ever been, any boxes are up off the florr. I use pallets in one room, and I even use the snap plastic boxes just to get some just so they don't sit directly on the floor. And I do need to get the binders I have on the floor, off the floor. 90% of my binders are on shelves, but I ran out of space! I need to make space.

So awesome. Now we can get back to saying sorry for the hassle of the flooding; as I said, your perspective and priorities are really refreshing to me and I'm sure others.

That's why i keep my collection in totes and military ammo cans. Water proof and durable. Good luck.

I use the 5 shelf wire types that adjust 2 inches so that I can get 12 - 5k boxes & 5 3k boxes on them, I use the plastic rings to set the shelf but I tap the pole with a chisle and drilled a screw hole in so to run a bolt thru it and not on the other side then anchored to a stud in the wall on the middle and upper shelves. They are like $80 but work well and with wire shelves you can't put a book on them without it dressing them so I used laminate flooring for the shelf bcz it's waterproof and thin but rick hard so to allow binders to sit even and no wore marks.... I have 2 shelves slap full of that setup & a other with just binders....
FOPD FOR THOUGHT
