Moose Stubing - 79 - died on January 19
His major league career consisted of 0-5 all as a PH.
He managed the Angels for 8 games after Cookie Rojas was fired in 1988. Losing all 8.
But he made it to The Show. And to his credit, whacked 192 HRs in the MiLs.
It's guys like these that make baseball what it is and who create memories for the rest of us.

It's remembering players like this that I love most about going through my card collection. All of these guys were cheered by thousands at some point -- even Moose as he was announced as a pinch hitter. And almost all are forgotten. By looking at their cards, I remember.
I see Moose Stubing, does not have a card listed in this database. But he has you.
Edit: Looks like I searched badly and he has, well, nine cards, and I even own one. But I stand by my basic point.

He has 9 cards listed.. including a card in the 1989 Topps base set.

A man has to have goals — for a day, for a lifetime — and that was mine, to have people say, "There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived."

Thanks. Oops. I must have mistyped his name when I searched.
Regardless, the point is the same.

Seeing his card always makes me think of Merrill Stubing, captain of The Love Boat.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Yes, we are talking about Moose Stubing....not Captain Steubing on the Love Boat.

Who is still alive and has 14 cards listed in this database -- well Gavin MacLeod does, anyway -- but not a single picture....

Incredible. Also, in my mind, the Stubings must be brothers, even if one is a fictional character.

OK now I have the Theme to The Love Boat as an ear-worm and that pointing pose that Ted Lange gives during his credit as Bartender Isaac Washington.
