Hi TCDB,
I'm in the process of puliing FLEER STICKERS for a trade. Most of you know I have an extensive collection, I have been collecting for years. Not sure how many members collect these seriously.
Do the members want a complete ERR/VAR/COR update on site? ex. 1986 logos not listed. Phillies; with and w/o "saying on top" or Cardinals; Cardinal w/ red beak, Cardinal w/ yellow beak. Many of these variations ARE recognized by collectors. The VARS for Fleer Stickers are well documented by the Fleer Sticker Project, as well as my secret source.
Another question? How interested are members in gross color VARS...and there are many! ex. 1985 Topps, Phillies , banner in off-red or almost black [like charcoal] or many of the Fleer Stickers ex. Brewers mitt bordered in yellow or orange.
I'm not trying to stir up a hornet's nest but there are definitely color variations already listed, too many to mention.
So, let's get a forum discussion going....
TU, ~BOB~

I'd probably say no to the color shades. More a quality control printing process type "glitch" with inking.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I've been working for years to collect as many of the variations I can. Would definitely be interested in a lively discussion.

Let's trade! I keep my Wantlist and For Sale lists updated.

The color variations are very confusing. Aren't the yellow name, red name color gliches.

387a, 547a, and 597a are definitely a printing process error, and not a true error, that shouldn't be catalogued here.

Back in the 60' s there were many red, yellow, white name variations including at least one Mantle I can think of. Are these more recent ones different than the 60's for some reason? I feel like the 60's ones have been in the price guides forever and been considered highly collectible.

That's my point exactly, if price guides include them, then why don't we? When did we stop recognizing these unique color variations? Hate to say it but I feel a double standard at work here. Where do we draw the line on variations, especially those involving color? Let's see, 1980 and before is OK, but after 1980 it's not OK?
If we are a card database, then all cards should be included, at least a mention. How about ADMIN, setting aside another notation line or notation list where interested collectors could interest other collectors in these variations, maybe even a place for a scan? We certainly made great strides with a dropdown including ERR/VAR/COR cards vs. the plain base set. I can understand members not interested in these variations thinking it's "BS", but many of us are interested. HOW MANY ARE INTERESTED? jump in !!! NOW.
How many were actually aware of the '85 Phillies "black" banner cards, or the '86 Cardinal red & yellow beaks' stickers? Another point, don't we include the 1982 "blackless" versions in the database? Inking gliche???
Me, seems very confusing as to where to draw the line...include, don't include. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Though I do not chase ERR or VAR, I have to agree with Bob on some of these, especially if they are recognized elsewhere in the hobby. For example, the # 387 1980 Topps card with the yellow name is listed in price guides and commands a ridiculous value for it.
But I also know that some of these VAR that we have listed on this site get a bit ridiculous, the most prominent example that comes to mind is the 1990 Donruss set with the black lines either over the letters of the name or not. (I can't believe any one ever compared card to card for that.) As well, and discussed many times here are the Topps / OPC sticker sets with different sticker card backs. Some of these VAR infiltrated some of the sets even though everyone has been very vocal to not to that.
I think discretion (and Admin's "OK") is necessary here. I know thta if you can show Admin that VAR are recognized else where such as the 1991 Topps Dark Logo VAR, he is willing to include them here. As a collector, I can always choose to ignore the subtle VAR and not collect them.

Personally I wouldn’t chase after most color variations unless they were vintage but I know some people do. If I stumble across them however I would like them in the database to track them. As mentioned above it seems like there is a bit of a double standard when deciding what is considered worthy of listing. I’d be curious to know what the standards are with the well known price guides.
