It's supposed to rain this weekend. Currently, my collection + trade list is 12,575 cards. If I grind real hard, my goal is to have 20,000 by the time I go to bed Sunday night. I have the cards, and it looks like I have the time. Wish me luck. (Reminder: I don't have complete sets that I can just enter 1-660 and raise my total fast). I want to be done with this soon so I can focus on trading.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

That's a lot of cards to input. I hope your sorting is done. I'm going to try and finish adding basketball and hockey to my trade list this weekend. I only have about 3,000 to add. The basketball cards are sorted already, but hockey is a mess. I haven't gone through it at all. I know very little about either so it takes me longer than football or baseball.
If I could just stay away from the tobacco sets, I'd get a lot more done.

Oh no, they aren't entirely sorted, Chad. That would make too much sense. I may come across a box with 100 together from the same set, but I'm not likely going to find any full boxes that are organized much beyond that.

Good luck David!
But OMG, am I the only person on here that is so OCD to have everything organized? I had everything already organized before I found this site. Okay, I don't have an Excel file or a written list of my cards like Billy or a couple others have mentioned, but I know what I have and where to find it in a hurry. I just posted in another thread about organization. After 30 years of collecting, I know organizing takes many different forms over the years. Sometimes, I just re-organized to be messing with my cards. I still think the worst thing I ever did was organize the cards by teams. That gets so confusing when you come across multi-player cards for a different team.
It is supposed to rain here on Sunday and into Monday. Not like I'm going outside on Sunday during that anyway, but I'll still try to be on here wrapping up my final additions to my MLB collection. X-Games are this weekend though and it keeps stealing my attention from the PC!
BTW, my collection was at about 14K back in November when I started the MLB push. That was really only the NASCAR and NFL cards and some non-sport cards then. Now I'm closing in on 37,000 cards in my collection. I really didn't think I had over 20K MLB cards, but Beckett doesn't list a ton of stuff that this site does!!!
TCDB is the best card database on the planet AND it gets better every day!

I'm with you Spaz. My collection has always been organized either by set or by player (2 different collections). My commons have also been organized by company, year, set, # so that when I buy a "complete hand-collated" set, I can add the invariably 1 or 2 missing cards easily. The only time I have a slightly disorganized collection is either when I am reorganizing or I have bought a large lot and need to merge them into my main collections.
I do have Excel spreadsheets for all the sets and for all the players I collect. Up to 2010, I had all of the players' existing cards listed (Sports Collectors Digest lists 95% of the card sets for every year and over the 5 different year books I have, it covers 99% of the sets, most of the unlicensed sets being the main exception). The one thing that doing this did for me in the hobby was to realize that the idea of owningevery existing card of any one modern day player was nearly an impossible task unless it was a lesser star such as Bob Boone. It was a big reason that I turned my attention to older cards where one could actually dream of owning them all.
And yes, this site is by far the greatest site ever for any kind of card collector.

Just can't leave a mess, its a long and to some funny story but I thank my father for making me that way. Speaking of "rainy", we got a bunch of GWN rain yesterday. As soon as I can I will uplaod a pic I took last night. Spaz will like it. =D

UPDATE: I will fail. The reason lies in the title of this thread. The rain came early; specifically, while I was asleep last night. So it was nice out today and I found outside things to do in the afternoon. In fact, I just got home. And WWE Royal Rumble is tomorrow, which I had forgotten about, so there is ZERO chance of success. And I'm kind of glad, because this task becomes unbearable if I don't sort as I go. In other words, slow down Switzer, or you will get frustrated and quit again!

When I first joined I did that easy way. THEN I found out I had gremlins steal or eat some of the cards.
So I went with making sure I had the correct card in the correct spot. Imagine my shock when I found out I had 660 cards and 659 different ones BUT I had 2 of one cards. Or the case of a 1989 set I was missing a Jorge Bell record breakers card. How do you miss not having a card in the first 9. In another set I had 2 Joe Niekro of the Astros, but no Phil Niekro in an Braves uniform.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards
